,

I agree with you as far as people changing features they are unhappy with such

as noses, teeth, etc. (Remember, even had her teeth done!) What I didn't

like about the swan is that they took all of these women with such low

self-esteem, fixed them up, supposedly gave them counseling about loving

themselves, and threw them into a pageant to see which was " best. " Seems to me

that was just tearing down what they had gone to such great pains to build up!

Just my opinion,

The Swan - revisited

Thanks for your many posts regarding the Swan. I see that my post

has struck a chord, in an area where I've spent a lot of time

thinking, at least, for a guy!

My good friend, who is a personal trainer, pointed out that its

unlikely most of America watches the show for the same reasons I do.

As I mentioned, I enjoy stories of people changing themselves for the

better. I also have spent hours and hours watching " Trauma: life in

the ER " and other hardcore, non reenacted, surgery shows.

I am ambivalent about plastics. I think if someone wants to do it,

based on THEIR OWN feelings and own choices, more power to them.

People should be happy with themselves. The pitfall many people who

elect for plastics hit, is that plastics alone will not solve their

self esteem issues. But it MAY help them. MAY. I speak from

experience as for most of my life I had a large ridge on my nose, and

when I broke it, I had the doctor shave off that area and alter the

shape of my nose to make it the way I LIKE IT. I can't be happier

with it now!

Thank you for the post. This actually hit a cord with me today. I have been

frustratated today because I have a pouch in my lower abs (I have had 3

children). I am actually very skinny and even look good in a bikini. I have

worked very hard to be in the best shape I can be, but this friggin pouch won't

go

away. Anyway, I think it is time for me to let go of worrying about it and

accept my body for what it is. I think you are right, people are always wanting

more and I think its good to stop and reflect on what you have. I think it

is probably very stressful for these people to go thru the many changes. I can

remember last year when I did my first 12 weeks, my body changed so much

during the 12 weeks. I also got a completely new hair style and hair color.

Anyway, I went from being a frumpish mother to a hottie. It was very hard

psychogically to deal with the attention. I was so self conscience. The funny

thing

is now that I have gotten used to it, I now notice all my imperfections. I

keep wanting to improve myself.

Even worse- I used to work at a plastic surgery clinic and you

wouldn't BELIEVE how many people we had that would get lipo in one

area and then keep eatig the same and gain weight back in other

areas. So, lipo will suck out fat cells, and you won't get the fat

bck as bad there (say in your booty) but it will show up even worse

in your thighs or your back. One woman had lipo on her neck and came

back 6 months later with huge jowls! I guess you pay in one way or

another for not changing your lifestyle! Riya
