Val, thanks very much for this reference. (Really appreciate all your

research references.) It coincided with my general practitioner (GP)

getting a test on my vitamin D levels. It turns out that I am very

deficient -

1,25 Dihydroxycalciferol 23 pmol/L ( norms 65-175 ). I am now taking

tablets 2000IU VitD3 per day.

I'm wondering about the relationship between PA and low Vit D levels. I

guess it helps explain my extreme fatigue.

Regards

Carol (Queensland, Australia)

That's about where mine is (24 pmol/L). I've been on 1,000 IU for several

months and just ordered my own re-test. Is low Vitamin D related to

fatigue?

I take vitamin D3. After being on 4000 IU/day of D3, my blood levels

were 33 ng/ml. The lab reference range for LapCorp was 32-100. Not

wanting to be just barely into the range since low D is correlated with

many disease including cardiovascular disease, I increased to 7000

IU/day of D3. For the last year, three blood tests have placed my blood

levels right at 63 ng/ml, summer and winter. I've seen good rational

health wise, based on research, for having blood D levels at the upper

end of the normal range, but I'm waiting for the " research " to become

more compelling for higher blood levels.

I think getting a vitamin D blood test is a very good idea and the only

way to know if your supplements, extra sunshine, or indoor full

spectrum/UV lights are doing any good. Since vitamin D's half life is

measured in weeks, one needs to take that into account if a lot of time

was spent in the sun for the week or two before blood work.

Steve, have you noticed any changes in the way you feel/symptoms since

improving D levels?

I've noticed absolutely nothing that I could relate to vitamin D

supplementation. My wife is taking 4000 IU/day. While she added a few

more things besides D, her c-reactive protein dropped from being high

all the time to normal. It is likely the vitamin D that did that and

there is some research on lowering inflammation. I wouldn't notice such

an effect since my c-rp is always low.

Statin drugs for lowering cholesterol may have there effect exclusively

on the slight anti-inflammation effect, not the cholesterol lowering

effect, and they to some degree mimic vitamin D.
