Guest guest
Does anyone here wear a heart rate monitor? If yes, does hitting the top high range or going over your max heart rate range equal hitting a 10? Re: Hiya Ladies (gotta few questions) Cardio- Any way you slice it, its a " bitch " if you do it right. Evaluate your Heartrate and see where it is. If you are getting close to 100% of your MAX Heartrate, then you may be getting close to passing out! My wife looks like she's gonna die when she's at 175-180. In doing a sadistic test myself I once drove myself to see how high I could go on my HR, I think it was the 190s even though my " MAX " HR is projected at 186. Stasia, who is in excellent shape, and posts here often, can't even break a sweat until she's over 170HR, and I think she's in her 40s! So its different for everyone. All I can say, is focus on deeper inhales, but when you're really burning it, you will want to lean over put your hands on your knees and pant! > > > Been hella busy with work but wanted to drop a line letting you > all > > > know that I am on the BFL bandwagon and feeling good..... > > > can anyone tell me if what I am eating is gonna get me SKINNY AND > > > TONE~~ > > > This morning I got up at 4, went to the gym...did my HIIT on the > > > treadmill (about died--but I think that means you did it right) > Was > > > on a 2 incline and did 5.5 for 2 minutes, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, then 6, > > etc > > > etc ended strong and set it to 9!!! Guest guest
Hi , I echo 's response. I wear a heart rate monitor regularly while running - in fact, I trained for my first marathon with one and almost always wear one now. But, as , said, it really is about perceived effort. Knowing that, you can guage where you are on the heart rate monitor. If I ran the numbers, I should be completely in the anaerobic zone (above the computer max heart rate zone (and just as a side note, I have always been like that - what changes is how fast I recover when my fitness improves.)) while I run. Now, if that were true, there is absolutely no way I could run 26.2 miles! I would hit the wall, and then some. But, since I know what my heart rate is at my " comfortable, sustainable, pushing myself pace (probably a 9 since I do intervals) " , the heart rate monitor is useful. I can tell for instance when I am too hot and need to slow down more than normal (and move to a slower heart rate) or hydrate more, because of knowing what I normally run at and based on experience, how I feel, etc., it is clear my body is processing less efficiently, etc. This is not surprising, particularly in runs that are over 20 miles long, it's too hot, or even if I haven't run consistently enough in a while. Since my heart rate monitor tracks the entire time, and I can download it to a computer, and I am looking for things such as, " how quickly did I recover? " , " how did i react to that hill? " , " did taking that energy gel make a difference? " etc. But, this is not HIIT, and I am looking for something slightly different. But, having that background information from doing shorter and longer runs, I know about where my 10s are on the heart rate monitor for HIIT, and not suprisingly, it is higher than what I would consider a 10 in a longer race, because knowing I only have to run for 20 minutes makes a huge difference! Where this becomes more important though, to further back up 's overall point that numbers vary, I could swim forever at a heart rate that if I were running, I would never be able to maintain; so to actually get a 10 while swimming is much harder. I hope this makes sense and helps! ~ _____ From: Columber [mailto:acolumber@...] Sent: Wednesday, April 28, 2004 1:36 PM Subject: Re: Re: Hiya Ladies (gotta few questions) Does anyone here wear a heart rate monitor? Guest guest
That does help. I use a combination I guess. While I know what my heart rate is thanks to the monitor, I don't stick to it to know what my max is. I use more of a feel for that. All my intervals are over the max heart rate. The monitor beeps the whole length of the blast. Usually, this takes me to about 10 or so beats above my max recommended heart rate. I let the monitor guide me back to a more normal range and try to stay below my max, but not near my minimum between blasts. Seems to be working for me for the most part. Thanks for your information. Guest guest
I know most of those things on the equipment isn't very accurate. I have the type that straps the reading device to your chest and it transmits the results to a monitor on your rest. It's my understanding that these are the most accurate. Mine includes a test built in to determine your max and min rates. There's some good info here, including a pretty good calculator to determine your zones. http://www.heartzone.com/index.shtml Re: Hiya Ladies (gotta few questions) Hmmmm...according to the heartrate thingie on the treadmill, my heart rate prior to passing out is only like 155. I have a strap heart rate monitor, but I haven't used it yet-maybe thats the key. I'll strap it on tomorrow! PS...how do you find out the max heart rate? thanks! gina > > > > Been hella busy with work but wanted to drop a line letting you > > all > > > > know that I am on the BFL bandwagon and feeling good..... > > > > can anyone tell me if what I am eating is gonna get me SKINNY > AND > > > > TONE~~ > > > > This morning I got up at 4, went to the gym...did my HIIT on > the > > > > treadmill (about died--but I think that means you did it right) > > Was > > > > on a 2 incline and did 5.5 for 2 minutes, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, then > 6, > > > etc > > > > etc ended strong and set it to 9!!!
