Hello all! Just wanted to let everyone know that I have finally put

a picture of in with the other photos of adorable plagio

babies. After wearing the starband for a month, he still doesn't

show any improvement. I hope his next appt. at the end of the month

will show some. I was told at his last Dr.'s appt. that he still has

a lot of head growth left that will hopefully happen anytime due to

him going through the " typical growth spurt around this age " ...

is 8 months. Can anyone relate to the lack of improvement as well as

the growth spurt comment?

Francine:

I can relate to the lack of improvment after a month in the

STARband. I was also told that Abby's lack of improvement was due to

not growing. Abby also began her STARband at about the same age as

your , she started at 8 mos.. Our orthotist kept telling me over

& over again, Abby hadn't hit any growth spurts that's why we hadn't

seen any improvment. I knew though Abby had been growing as she had

outgrown several outfits & such. Have you noticed growing at

all over this month? If so, then I would question your orthotist.

Is your orthotist experienced in treating plagio & the STARband?

That is the key to success or failure in the band.

I just checked out his picture, he's adorable! Did you paint the band

like that or is that how it came? I love it! It's hard to tell from

the picture, but is the band covering his right ear at all??? It kind

of looks like it from the photo.

Thanks for the update.

Debbie,

I have seen him growing lately... we switched his shirt size from 6-9

to 12 mo. He is growing a lot in length. not in weight... he only

gained 2 pounds in 2 months... he is in the 25% for weight & 75% in

height.. as you can see from the photo, he is a very health little

boy! :) He hasn't really hit a big growth spurt though. Did you

notice a big difference when Abby hit her growth spurt vs. before?

When was scanned, his head grew in circumference 3 mil. but the

dimensions were the same. 's orthotist is experienced in

treating plagio w/ the STARband.

's helmet was ordered with the pattern on it. It's hard to see

from the photo, but it has a bunch of fish on it... thanks... we like

it too!

In regards to if it was covering his right ear, it probably was at

that point. Due to the location of 's flat spot and high points

on his head, the helmet rotates all of the time. We are so used to

rotating it when he is wearing it, we don't even give a second

thought anymore. The funny thing is, doesn't mind either! He

is so used to the STARband that he sleeps on his side (the side of

the velcro strap)! It looks so uncomfortable... In the beginning I

would move him on his back and he would move right back on his side.

So now I just leave him sleeping however he wants now... he,he.

Francine,

Cole started his STARBand at 7 months too. He has been in his for 3 weeks, and we have seen improvement (although we have a long way to go). I suppose it's possible that hasn't grown in the last month, but I agree with Debbie about questioning your orthotist (have you gotten to talk to any other patient's moms? I have found that to be quite helpful and reassuring). I hope he will have a growth spurt soon and you will start to see improvement.

Francine,

is such a handsome fella! My ortho had told me that they usually

see a good deal of correction during the first six weeks. But I

think that is subjective to each child and how fast they are

growing. I would think by now you should definitely have seen some

correction. Voice your concerns again toyour ortho, an adjustment

may be needed.

Hi Francine,

It is true that improvement with the band or helmet usually occurs when a

growth spurt happens. The older the child the less frequent the growth

spurts. I think it would not be out of the question that significant

improvement would not occur in a month, however, if you don't see any

improvement in the next month I would be more concerned. Have you taken a lot

of photos to compare to current photos? That would help track the progress.

Please keep us posted!!
