Guest guest
Bonnie, Have you been taught how to restrain safely? My son is 6 and very strong. When angry, he bites, scratches, kicks, bucks and head butts. My husband and were shown how to restrain him safely. It is called the basket hold. I can do it by myself. It keeps him from being injured as well as yourself. You need to be taught by some one who is trained to do it safely. Kathie
Guest guest
Bonnie, Kathie has an excellent point here. You can also receive PART Training (Physical Assault Response Training) or MAB Training (Management of Assaultive Behaviors) through your regional center or possibly even your school district. Guest guest
Thanks Kathi and Heidi. Just so happens I was talking to RC worker today, but did not get around to telling her about the incident since I got letter from teacher and I requested Emergency IEP so that was the topic. But she has to come one day next week for other son's IPP so can ask her then and do some research through google and their website to see if they have any upcoming training. Good idea, thanks for the suggestion, never would have thought about that, and can relay that to the feeding clinic so they can share with other families when in crisis mode.
