Guest guest
Yes, the soaking and rinsing does the trick. For other bean dishes, where you don't want to sprout the beans, you should soak them for at least 24 hours and discard the soak water (and it wouldn't hurt anything to change the soak water once or twice, either). Rinse the beans well before cooking them. Soaking helps break down some of those long chain sugars that are so hard to digest. It also helps remove the enzymes in the beans, which makes them easier to digest and also lets you absorb more of the food value from the beans when you eat them. Guest guest
EW: Am I correct that you stated that you soak your beans for 4 days. Does this mean that if I buy a package of any kind of beans, I put some in a big mason jar, fill the jar with water, change he water once a day, and in 4 days, take them out, drain and keep rinsing until they sprout. Am I correct in this. Because I also notice MUCH less gastric symptoms if I soak them well. But I do admit, eating all this fiber, well, it does give me gas, and I mentioned this to my husband's nurse and she said " Gas is a good thing, it means your bowels are working " . lol Melody Beans, Sprouting, Gas Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2009 06:56:36 -0800 (PST) Ok folks, Sorry if this email offends anyone, I certainlly do not mean to. Guest guest
In four days they will develop a little 'tail', thats as far as you need to go. Having them grow any larger will not make them more nutritious. Yes, buy a package of seeds. Decide how much of it you want. Wash them well. Cover with water, about twice as much water as beans. In 8 to 12 hours, rinse, repeat. In four days, they are ready. I wouldn't put the whole package in one jar. Use a large bowl to give them breathing room. I don't know if 'gas' means your bowels are working or that the beans are working. ew Beans, Sprouting, Gas Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2009 06:56:36 -0800 (PST) Ok folks, Sorry if this email offends anyone, I certainlly do not mean to. Guest guest
Thanks very much for all the information. My husband's nurse said that GAS (flatulence), is perfectly normal when you eat what we eat and it also means that a person's bowels are working the way they are supposed to work. If a person ate beans, vegetables, etc, and DIDN'T have any gas (well, that's not a good thing). She says the digestive system is supposed to work like this. That's fine by me. Guest guest
Ernest: I have a very god question. I had soaked my beans for 12 hours, and now I'm rinsing (this was before I knew about the 4 day thing). They have little tails now. I'm sauteeing them and using them. Can these particular beans (who have not soaked for 2 days), well can they be RE-SOAKED and kept in water? I'm just curious if this is possible. Or does this only apply the first time you take the beans out of the package, wash them and then put them in a big jar and soak them. My question is " once they have been soaked and are now draining in the jar for two days, CAN THEY THEN BE PUT BACK IN WATER AND SOAKED FOR 2 OR MORE DAYS until they all will be used? Guest guest
Lee, et.al. Yes, beans to cook. I don't eat any bean sprout raw except mung. I soak beans for soup. stews, chili etc. for four days prior to use. I plan ahead. If I'm going to make chili on Sat., I put beans to soak on Tue. night after rinsing thoroughly. The next AM, I drain off the water. I have found that it's ok just to leave them in the pan I soaked them in, which is usually the pan I will cook them in, as long as they are competely drained. But, you could also put them in a strainer or colandar. Rinse every 8-12. In four days they have tails and are ready t use. Guest guest
They will be slimy to the touch and you won't like the smell. ew Beans, Sprouting, Gas Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2009 06:56:36 -0800 (PST) Ok folks, Sorry if this email offends anyone, I certainlly do not mean to. I have noticed that when I eat cooked beans, espically Lentils they give me horrible, painful gastric symptoms. However, I sprouted the Mix 47 Midnight Moon from Sprout People, Crimson and French Blue Lentils and Black Garbonzos. I ate some in the raw state and then the rest I put in a pot of rice, just as the rice was about finished " standing " so basically the sprouts were not cooked, just warmed in the hot rice. I had NO Painful symptoms at all. Does the rinse soak cycles get rid of some chemical that is causing my symptoms? Would it be a good idea to sprout all beans before cooking in what ever recipie I am doing? To save money I have been using Lentils and Black Beans as Meat in Spaggetti, Lentil Patties etc. I have used extra Kidney Beans in Chili instead of Meat. Thanks in Advance! Guest guest
Haha! My problem has been with pain and no toot for about a day! Smyrna, TN US Zone 6b There's an old children's rhyme that goes: Beans, beans, the musical fruit. The more you eat, the more you toot. The more you toot, the better you feel. So lets have beans for every meal. So I guess that gas has been with us for awhile. ew Recent Activity  16 New MembersVisit Your Group Drive Traffic Sponsored Search can help increase your site traffic. New business? Guest guest
Rinse and drain completely. Handle them just like they were broccoli or alfalfa. No sitting in water. BYW, I just checked out .com and they say 2-3 days on most beans. ew Re: Re: Beans, Sprouting, Gas Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2009 13:44:06 -0800 (PST) Sorry EW, Just want to make sure I do this right.
