I checked out the Seedmart site. That seed package pictured there was

produced by Northrup/King for a set up that they use to put into hardware

and nursery stores where you could but a seed sprouting devise (a

biostack) and about four different seeds to sprout. Other that jars, that

was the first sprouter that I ever had. Thats was in 1999. Northrup/King

no longer produces seeds packages for the home market and haven't for

awhile. I would be interested in knowing how old the seed is. Melody,

would you look on the back of the package and tell me the date? By the

way those seeds are not organic.

Hi. I never knew the seeds from Seedmart were not organic.

I am on the last little package of Alfalfa seeds. There is nothing written on

it. Just the word ALFALFA.

I got 6 or so little seed packets. Each one had handwriting on it. One said

SUNFLOWER. Boy, what a waste of time that one was. It was still in the hull.

Useless to try and sprout that one. The others were fenugreek, zesty salad mix,

another alfalfa, and forget what one was.

All were little ziplok packets with the name of the seed handwritten on it.

I assume that Handy Pantry seeds are organic?

Thanks much.

How long does it take to sprout a 35 pounds of seeds? Go around behind any fast

food resturants that sell a lot of hamburgers and they throw out heavy duty 5

gallon buckets daily. And they're free

Hi ... I am fairly new to the group... I don't know thr rules well but I do know

about srouting alfalfa... I used to help Swami Vishnu Devananda's Ashram in

Woodbourne NY in their sprouting business there in S. Fallsburg way back in the

70's... taking lots of sprout to Hunts Point market for distribution all over

NYS ... anyway   you can get 25 pounds of certified organic Frontier Nartural

Brands for some where about 285.45 and about 20 bucks shipping is that a good

deal?

That would be 11.42lb. not a bargin compared to 4.52lb.I have seen a better

price than 4.52 but the volume of 50lbs. is a bit much. And Ive never tried there

seed before so I passed on that one.I have bought kelp from frontier and like

there quality and price for kelp.

individual little packets (probably 2 oz) and then wrote on the packet what the

seed was.

And forgive me for sounding stupid but what does one need buckets for?

I get 4 gallon pails, one I can get about 20 pounds of flour into.

Try going to your local grocery that sells baked pastries and cakes and

see if they will sell or better yet give you the frosting buckets.

I ask at a local store, tell them I will wash them out my self (cause

often times they are full of day old frosting), they are food grade

plastic, and the lid has a rubber seal in it that can be removed for

cleaning and sterilization.

And they stack very well.

Some storage estimates:

4 gallons = 30 lbs. Wheat, beans, rice, or sugar

4 gallons = 20 lbs. Powdered milk or flour

4 gallons = 15 lbs. macaroni

4 gallons = 13 lbs. Potato flakes, oatmeal, or instant milk

5 gallons = 35 lbs. Wheat, beans, rice, or sugar

5 gallons = 25 lbs. Powdered milk or flour

5 gallons = 20 lbs. macaroni

5 gallons = 15 lbs. Potato flakes, oatmeal, or instant milk

My first posting.......

I get a pound bag of Zesty Sprouting Mix (1/2 crimson clover, 1/4

alfalfa and 1/4 fenugreek), brand name NOW, at my local health food

store (Chuck's) on the second Tuesday of each month when they have 20%

discount throughout the store. Regular price is $4.99 so end up

paying about $4.00 after discount.

Definitely like the 'Zesty' mix vs. straight alfalfa for salads.

Oh, I wished my local organic store sold other stuff besides Organi Lentils,

mung beans (they sell all the beans), they also sell amaranth seeds.

Anyone know how amaranth seeds, well, if they sprout good?

I'm thinking of trying them.

When I work in my garden, I set up three buckets. In one goes trash, in

the second goes plant material the will go into my compost pile, in the

third goes plant material that cannot or should not be put into the

compost. This goes into the Cities' green barrel. Also, when I sift

compost, I put it in 5 gal buckets to make it easy to move to where its

needed. There is a horse barn nearby the gives away manure. Save it in

buckets until it goes into the compost pile. I have buckets full of

perlite, vermiculite, coir and potting soil (I make my own). And when I

run my shredder, 5 gal buckets and used to store the mulch and move it to

where its needed.

You are lucky, Phyllis, the local health food store in my neighborhood

is dark, dirty, dusty and hot. I don't buy anything there. I have a

Trader Joe's nearby, but they don't have seeds. The Whole Foods is about

25 miles, but they quit selling seeds when the alfalfa scare was around a

few years back. I cannot convince any store manager that they've had that

nobody ever had a problem with organically grown seed. They say I need to

go to corporate, but they're pretty sure that nobody would listen.

I had one amaranth come up wild in my garden and I let it bloom not

knowing any better. Now, one year later, they are sprouting all over my

yard and even across the street. The only redeeming factor is that you

can eat the baby leaves. And if you know how you can use the seeds for

food.

Well, I am just fixing to get into sprouting.  I want the 5 gallon buckets for

storeing beans, grains etc.  We would like to have a preparedness food supply

that if some family or natural calamity were to occur we would have food for a

year.  Yes I want to start sprouting so I can start store seed also for

preparedness food.

thanks for the ideas of where to go.  Also, I plan on purchasing " Gamma Lids "

they are great for sealing an air tight seal in the buckets.  You can order them

online or some Pet Smarts have them.

You can get organic seeds at the www.shamanshop.net plus lots of other good

stuff... they have thousands of things... search for alfalfa seeds and you

should be able to find it... I am an affiliate of theirs and you can also find

them at my website if I am allowed to do this ... my site is

at www.bacteriapimp.com and I also have a link to the shaman shop in my shopping

mall... I also have a sprouting page.. that is up but I am still workijng on

it... I don't know the rules but here is someone asking for organic seeds and I

have links to them... you can edit out any rule infractions or the whole

thing... or tell me the proper way to do this kinka thing... I don't want to

break the rules but I find there are just so many rules it is impossilbe to know

them all... thank mike

Are the Now seeds Organic?  I am having a little difficulty finding organic

sprouting seeds locally.  Well, I found them but they were in a twist tie bag

and infested.

My first posting..... ..
