Clear bottles...

Hoping that experienced group members can help me out:

Whats the thought on using clear bottles to store natural based

perfumes(alcohol or oil based)? If one is sensible about exposure

to light will it work? Will frosted glass help if clear is not

recommended?

Secondly what actually happens to a perfume stored in a clear

glass and exposed to light for long periods? Do the perfumes

go " off " ?

Clear glass bottles are fine. Frosted doesn't change anything. It is not

just light, but also heat, that can cause a perfume to degrade.

Yes, the do go " off " . The light rays can be harmful. Think of how curtains

and rugs can be " bleached " by the sun. Even indoor light can be harmful. I

keep mine in a dark part of my bedroom, or in a drawer.

You often see commercial stock in a box, and that is for a good reason,

besides protecting the glass.

BTW, this is not a warning exclusive to natural perfumes. People have kept

their regular, commercial perfumes stored this way, if they were aware of

the dangers of light (and sun.) I remember visiting a friend years ago and

being amazed that she kept all her little perfume bottles on the bathroom

windowsill. I'm sure they didn't remain true-to-scent for more than six months.
