Guest guest Posted November 10, 2006 Report Posted November 10, 2006 I'm seeing quite a few pre-op patients who do not have teeth (either they don't have properly fitted dentures- OR one pt I saw recently who doesn't have any teeth and said he hasn't worn dentures in 30 years!) I know proper chewing of food is essential after surgery (in order to tolerate foods AND to avoid causing an obstruction/blockage of the stoma). Is it possible for a pt to do well after surgery without having dentures? Of course I always explain why it is neccessary for them to get fitted for dentures.....but.....with the weight loss after surgery, would this cause someone with dentures to have to get a new set of dentures because they may become too loose or not fit properly after the weight loss? Has anyone experienced any similar situations? Thanks for any input! Quote
