Annoying gym people!

I've gotta vent a bit about a few regulars at the gym I go to. Everyday I see

them and wonder what in the world they are doing!

There is this one woman - I've named her " Elliptical Woman " , and she has been

going to this gym ever since I started, and probably

long before that. She is there the second the doors open at 5:30 every morning,

and gets right on an elliptical machine. She must

spend 1.5 to 2 hours or maybe even more on that machine each and every day. I

never see her doing anything else, and she is there

when I get there, and there when I leave 1.5 hours later. I can't even fathom

why she would want to (or think she needs to) do that.

She goes very slowly, and puts the ramp and the resistance way up there. And

she just goes and goes and goes... She never looks

any different (she is fairly thin, but could clearly be in better shape), and it

always looks like she is torturing herself. She doesn't drink

any water while she is doing this, nor does she listen to any music or read.

I've actually contemplated whether she is engaging in

some form of self-inflicted punishment or something - that is how odd her

routine seems!! I don't understand!!!

Then, there is this guy who looks like he might be a runner. He always spends a

lot of time on the weights, but rarely free weights.

He is the perfect example of someone who knows NOTHING about form. He is not

very muscular, but tries to move around weights

that are clearly too heavy. It's amazing he hasn't really hurt himself, the way

he contorts his body to lift these weights. My favorite

thing that he does is this: he takes a couple of what look like 20 lb.

dumbbells, and proceeds to do something vaguely reminiscent of

shoulder presses. But what he really does is stand there, and swing the

dumbbells from down at his sides up to the sides of his

head, and back down again. Over and over. I always have this overwhelming

desire to go over to him, shake him, and demand to

know what he thinks he is doing!!

I hope this all doesn't come across as snobby or anything. I am by no means

perfect in the gym, but these two just seem to be

paragons of illogical workout routines. Every morning when I see them I think

that I need to share them with this group, because I

know all of you have come across people like this. What are they doing?!?!?!

There...vented! Thanks for listening. :-)
