Guest guest
My office manager and I were wondering if it’s really necessary to have patients sign an ABN at EACH visit or if it just needs to occur annually, or when a condition changes. Also, are chiropractors really getting audited at an increasing rate or is it like the HIPAA compliance scare where 5 years later, almost no small practices were audited and fined. , er In Arizona, I mean Florida (NOT wanting the authorities to be alerted) E. Guest guest
Hi , er of Arizona,, I mean Florida (Colombia, I presume), Attached is Noridian's instructions regarding the ABN. The ABN advises the beneficiary a COVERED SERVICE may not be paid. Obtain the beneficiary's signature for services not reimbursable due to not "reasonable and necessary". Don't forget to attach the -GA modifier to tell Medicare a signed ABN is in the patient's file. I know it can still be confusing as to when the ABN is most appropriate so I would advise its use anytime there is the slightest doubt. J.
