And everyone else. Let's share what we all do on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Duff and I stay home (have for 12 years after realizing we HATED going to various parties). Our little celebration has gotten smaller since our two oldest go out now. I LOVE to cook, so I make a gourmet meal for us both, which we eat in front of the fireplace. n, Allie and Maddie all have pizza. Then we watch Dick (Naturally) and bring in the New Year with a bottle of bubbly. n and Allie run outside and bang pots and pans. My siblings all call me since my mom died three years ago, since they all go to parties. Even my brother in Chicago calls me. Joe and call home too, of course. New Year's day is spent watching the Mummers on tv (never actually went downtown to see it), then FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL, FOOTBALL!!!! LOL Then dinner which will be either lamb or pork (don't know yet what I'm gonna do). I'm sure we'll have a few stray Duffeys at the table (Duff's mom is still recovering so we'll probably get a number of his sibs and their families for dinner). I'd LOVE to hear some more traditions!!!!!!! Donna
Guest guest
It is hard to believe this year flew pretty quick . Thank God ! I survived due to of you on this list. WISHING EVERYONE the same A BLESSED & safe New year ! We celebrate with Dick too , on New Year's Eve . Of course you Eastern time are celebrating before us . Then we watch our local station were we could view the ball go up the tower and it lights up in San by the Riverwalk & the Alamo . Then pull the popper strings and drink sparkling cider , eat 12 grapes & the black eye peas for luck . We also have a traditional mexican dishes call buenelos , tamales , & menudo . The next day , same here watch football games , we'll be having ham and the works with our next door neighbor . This New Year's Eve is actually the first since 6 yrs. that my DH will be home , he normally works and I end up babysitting one of my sisters kids , not this year . I had to turn them down . Back when I was younger it meant fireworks and shooting with hunting rifles using blanks but so much have changed and I hope and pray that it has discontinue . I will not go out due to drunk drivers . To all a safe to and from if celebrating . To the year " 2002 " , may there be peace . Irma & family . Guest guest
That's neat I didn't know that they do a thing on the news about San . Yep, eastern people will celebrate the new year an hour ahead of us. But we get to watch the ball drop again when it's midnight our time. Well if I don't have any plans then I'll stay home. ===== __________________________________________________
Guest guest
If I have any plans tomorrow night then I'll do those. But if not then I'll stay home and watch the ball drop on tv, and play some card games with my parents. Other then that I'll probablly chat with friends. ===== __________________________________________________

Good old Traditional ball drop , I know its going to be different with some security measurements and cold . > Well if I don't have any plans then I'll stay home. > > I heard Amarillo had some snow , we MIGHT get some tomorrow . I know I'm staying home . I'm pretty sure its pretty cold where you live too . But not as cold us up north , so bundle up y'all . Whatever plans you decide to do , enjoy it with your family or friends . Take care and make sure you have black-eye peas ; ) . Even its just one for the year , ok . Hugs. Guest guest
That's cool, I've visited San once for a few days- and liked it. Even though it's far driving from here, I think we might visit it sometime again. I'm glad that your New Year's Eve was good with the fireworks and stuff. I guess it's cool. Yeah the ball- the color of the ball in NY was different then usuall. Of couse they'll have tighter security this year then usuall. I wonder why, jk. Speaking of snow, it snowed the 29th for a few minutes- it didn't stick but it was cool watching it snow. Does anyone know about getting headaches at a particular time of the day for a few days? ===== __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Since we're almost done with January, I'd better offer my best wishes to everyone for a new year filled with love, joy, strength & courage!!!! I, too, read every post & share in spirit with everyone's trials, tribulations & triumphs! Welcome to all the new members & many thanks to all the regular contributors who continue to share & support. Now for my update. Christmas was a very rough time for us. I'm glad it's over! was off for 2 weeks & she was really at loose ends this time. She seemed to miss her regular routine more than ever. She was constantly getting into mischief (pica - feces smearing, menstrual smearing, etc.). However, once we got back into the routine of school, she was fine. She has matured tremendously since starting high school. This past Saturday night she went to a birthday party for a young man with D.S. from her school who was turning 21. At her school, all the special ed. kids know each other & they were all invited to this party (ages 14-21). Steph is probably the youngest - ( & remember she's 14-18 mos. cognitively). Well, I kind of dreaded going because I had visions of her droolling & spitting, having to wear a bib, me following her around with a box of kleenex (she has a mild cold & doesn't use kleenex independently yet) & intervening so that she wouldn't pinch & scratch everyone. Anyway, I really think it's important to take her to gatherings like this - it was especially nice to be invited, so off we went. Steph was wearing a lovely black velvet pant suit I had bought her for Christmas, but hadn't hemmed until now! & she looked great! I told her she was going to see all her friends from school & maybe some of her teachers, but I don't think she understood until we got there (after all it was after supper & dark out when we went!). Well, when we got there there were so many kids who came over & greeted Steph & told her how pretty she looked. She handed Tim (the birthday boy) his present & I said Happy Birthday for her (she's non-verbal). She danced with me a fair bit & a little with some of the kids. Both her E.A.'s were there & took turns dancing with her. I was able to visit with some of the parents & for the 1st time out in public with her, I was able to relax. I didn't see much aggressiveness (pinching or scratching) & when there was any it was quickly ignored or redirected (by both peers & E.A.'s). Now here's the biggy. When we were seated at the table Steph signed that she wanted to eat. I gave her a large potato chip & she ate it appropriately (without scrunching it into a million crumbs) & signed for " more " ! I was amazed! The aides told me that they often have parties at school & that she's getting lots of practice eating chips! She even drank her juice (I brought along a juice box as she doesn't drink pop), without spitting & with very little droolling. I didn't even bring out her bib! I was so proud of her. It was really a wonderful evening. It started at 7:30 & I told Gord we'd be home by 9:00 (Steph goes to bed at 8:30 with few exceptions). Well, we stayed 'til 10:30 & Steph truly had a great time! Believe me, I was close to tears many times throughout the night. This week I have Steph home with me as the rest of her school is writing exams. I don't think it's right or fair that the special ed. kids who don't write exams have to stay home, but we pick our battles, right? It so happens that I have the week off from my Kindermusik teaching job (we're between semesters), so it wasn't a big deal for me to have her home. On Wed. we go to Toronto to see the hip specialist & we'll find out when her surgery will be. The conferences all look great - I'd love to attend. I've heard great things about Greenspan & have read a little. I think we're already doing a lot of it. The visual strategies conference in Ohio sounds like just what I need to motivate me to get something up & rolling for Steph. We've done a little with photos, but not everyone on her team is doing it consistently. The sexual issues conference in Rochester sounds great, too. Dave Hingsburger has given workshops here & although I haven't heard him, he's very highly regarded as a speaker. I think the thing that makes me really want to go to one of these conferences is the chance to meet some of you!!! This List is truly my lifeline & I'd love to be able to put a face to some (all) of you & to get a real hug!!! What does anyone think of organizing another get together in the East? (I'd drive to upper New York State!). Sorry this is so long. Bye for now & prayers & hugs to everyone as we go through our daily ups & downs! Guest guest
> Oh yea Jo, I am still eating beef...lol to help you not starve > Pat ================== Thank God somebody is! lol... Joe spent Xmas eve on the phone fighting with the calf ranches that wouldn't agree to pay anything for the calves...just wanted to kill them. And with the Dairymen who was of course up in arms. Joe finally got the calf ranch to agree to take the calves and keep them alive but not " pay " for them until they found out what a fair price would be. The ranches were risking putting money (labor & feed) into an animal that had no market value. The Dairymen were risking not getting any money for their calves and Joe was basically working for a week not knowing if he was making a dime or not...we knew we were spending money on labor and fuel and such...They finally agreed on a price of $50 per bull calf (down from around $160) Right now it is a violable market and can change on a dime. The Granddaughters came to the house on Xmas Eve (the day we celebrate on my side of the family) with fevers and very ill...I said " were going to urgent care now " Santa forgot over half his suit...so he had to just leave the bag by the door ring his bell " hohoho " and dash....Now Joe and I both have the girls flu.... I kept telling family members that this was going to be the Xmas from Hell. I even told Joe at one point " I don't even want to do Xmas this year...lets just escape to the coast in the motorhome " Of course he thought I was crazy. Although right now I am pretty darn sick...the feeling of impending doom is lifting...I look around and the family may be sniffling but we are going to survive...so I am delighted, and ready to see what lessons and blessing this new year will bring.
