Tab,

I've had this problem too but it seemed the only common ingredient was cocoa

butter. Did you have cocoa butter in both. I've wondered about this

because some of my lotions would feel like they had sand in them. Not a

nice feeling.

Lynn, I think you are extremely lucky to shea butter at $9.00 a lb. Here

in Australia I've only been able to find it at one place and shea butter

cost me $52.50 for 1 kg (or 2.2 lbs). I also like what it does & it is my

favourite bar I make.

Hi Barb,

I hesitate to reply since I am just a beginner, but have decided to try to

contribute my " 2 cents worth " when I can. The shea butter I have used is

what I would call grainy. I can say that when it is melted with other

oils/butters it becomes what I think is a nicer consistency.

,

I buy it from Camden Grey. It comes in different sizes.

From 8 oz for 4.50 to 32 oz 16.00. It's about the consistency of crisco.

Depending what you use it for it can be stubborn at times!

I'm on my search for Shea Butter. Can anyone let me know how it's sold, like

solid or liquid, in blocks or cans or jars?

It comes mostly in a solid form.

One supplier that I get it from sends it as a block in a plastic tub.

Another sends it chunked up in ziploc bags.

Hi ,

Shea butter is a solid. It is sold in blocks if you purchase a large

quantity. Some suppliers repackage in smaller quantities, such as 1lb-5lb,

in containers. The shea butter is sort of the consistency of butter. Shea

butter is wonderful in creams, soap, whatever.

It's sold by the pound; think of really extra-firm shortning, I guess. But,

not quite as hard-hard like cocoabutter. Almost........

Clear as mud? Mine usually comes packed in ziplock baggies.

Hi,

Not sure if you are looking for a source when you mentioned " in search for

Shea butter " . If you are, let me know and I can give you the name of a good

I sell shea butter. It is soft with a butter-like consistency. It is

used as a condiment in Africa. We package it in jars. In order to add

it to a recipe you have to heat it up. If you contact me privately, I

will send you a catalog of prices. rs are not yet on my web page.

Thanks,

Hi everyone,

I am new to this list and just wanted to introduce myself..I'm Vicki and I

live in Upstate NY. I am totally new to making soaps, lotions, etc. so I'm sure

I will be seeking a LOT of guidance from you :o) I am taking a course this

coming weekend which hopefully will get me off on the right foot..wish me

luck !!

I have a quick question..I noticed that there was a posting for purchasing

Shea butter...when there are postings like that are they only for wholesale

purchases or can anyone buy? If anyone can, I would be very interested in

making a purchase for the Shea butter.

I apologize for my ignorance, but I am not sure how this all works yet.

Thank you for all the great ideas I have gotten from this site

already..hopefully someday I will be able to contribute too !!

Have a wonderful evening,

Vicki

You are doing just fine. If you don't understand something the first thing

you want to do is ask a question, which you did. It is open for everyone.

I am not taking orders just looking for interest. There has been quite a

bit of interest so it looks like I might be doing this. I will let you know

when I start taking order and will give full details.

I don't know what kind of Shea Butter you are using but I think the Shea

butter is a good smell. Have you ever smelled the 100% Shea Butter by:

s Natural Products or L'Occitane?? They smell lovely.........yum.

s is very resonably priced and L'Occitane is from France and on the

pricey side. Check them out though for the scent.

I also have used unrefined Shea and felt the difference in the texture but

not smelling bad.

So.........hmmmmmmm???? Wonder what is up with yours.
