Guest guest
I would like to piggyback on this post and get people's opinions on the use of flextrodes versus metal sensors. > I would appreciate other's opinions on what product is best for attaching > electrodes to the scalp. > It is necessary to use both a prep gel and paste or is the gel sufficient > alone? > What brands are best? > What company site do you recommend for purchasing? > Also, can anyone direct me to a source for training DVDs or Videos that cover > the basics of NF and...how to get started in establishing a practice in NF? > Thank you. > > V Lea > Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, > .....But by the moments that take our breath away. Guest guest
I bought a set of Flextrodes with the cap at ISNR. I don't really use them as I find them cumbersome and they looosen and lose the connection. I prefer using the silver/silver chloride electrodes form Grass-Telefactor with nuprep and paste. Guest guest
Steve, Your experience is not uncommon, although we do have many happy users of Flextrodes. We'll be happy to help you get better use from them, but the following comments may also be helpful. Many people who are used to the gold or silver disks, with paste and gel, find disks & paste just fine. I used to use them often, even when we had the Flextrodes developed and available. Some of the most experienced people continue to use paste and gel, as it is a " known quantity " , and they work without any velcro band or headset. More recently, we have figured out the tricks to make Flextrodes work best, which include using ElectroMist spray, and spraying right into the hair in the Flextrode ring, and also using ElectroMist (not sodium-chloride salt water) as the wetting agent. In my recent demonstrations, I have tried to get bad signals, and was unable. We also use a cotton " boot " on the earclips for a totally gel and paste free system. Once you learn to get completely away from paste, it is nice. So if you see it done, and learn the simple methods that work, Flextrodes can work really nicely. If you don't have that experience, I agree they can be finicky and less optimal than the tried & true sticky stuff. We have more info at: http://www.brainmaster.com/productinfo/bmraccessories/pereferals/flextrodes/flex\ trodes.html We also have a " FlexCap " system that replaces the felt and ElectroMist with a cavity and gel, so it works more like the ElectroCap system. That includes a 10-20 hat and rings that plug in and out. It has another learning curve of its own, but it also has its value when doing multisite training, and you want to get exactly at the 10-20 sites for training. For info on these, see: http://www.brainmaster.com/productinfo/bmraccessories/pereferals/flexcap/flexcap\ ..html As an additional comment, I'll note that we do not push these systems on anyone, and we don't want people to get them unless they understand the strengths and weaknesses, and are well informed. As is always our policy... Tom Re: need advice on scalp prep and training info > > > I bought a set of Flextrodes with the cap at ISNR. Guest guest
I can't help you with the paste issue because I'm sitting with a scalpful of goo even as I type this. I'm terrible with the paste - but just keep gooing and trying until I get a decent signal. But regarding the training materials . . . you may find it useful to check out the training materials, tapes, etc. sold through www.futurehealth.org. I have not actually viewed the fundamentals series, but that may be what you're looking for. Also - the Winter Brain Conference is coming up soon, so it might pay you to wait just a few more weeks if you're looking at buying recordings of presentations from Winter Brain. Once in a blue moon you can find used training tapes for resale at www.eegbay.com (part of the EEG support website). If you end up buying the fundamentals series, I'd love to know what you think about it. -------------- Original message from mr1val@...: -------------- I would appreciate other's opinions on what product is best for attaching electrodes to the scalp. It is necessary to use both a prep gel and paste or is the gel sufficient alone? What brands are best? What company site do you recommend for purchasing? Also, can anyone direct me to a source for training DVDs or Videos that cover the basics of NF and...how to get started in establishing a practice in NF? Thank you.
