Guest guest
Mark, Sometimes you can break up the locking by using a reversal protocol. Depending on his individual assessment, you can reward alpha at P4 (providing body calming) and reward beta (or inhibit slow activity) at F3. His assessment showed Processing problems along with beta coherence - locking pattern. The presenting problem is hyper activity and angry outbursts. But as I watch the boy during sessions I see someone who is very uncomfortable. His back is always hurting and tense. He has to stretch his muscles constantly. In other words, I don't see so much impulsiveness but more constant body tension. I started training at C4 along with a second channel from T4 to CZ SMR hoping to get him to unwind. It does appear to work during the session, but I have this nagging feeling I am missing something. Any suggestions? Mark
Guest guest
Mark, Assuming the beta coherence is still there when you train it (in a person with high muscle tension it could be artifact), I would see a potential for the hyperactivity, the tension and the anger related to that. If the beta levels are high, I'd definitely try training them down. Guest guest
Dana: Your suggestions are interesting and very helpful. It never occurred to me that a reversal protocol could undo high coherence. I usually us a protocol directed toward rewarding less coherence and less variance in beta and high beta. I often wonder if there may be other approaches. As to your P4 suggestions - I went back to the assessment and that would be entirely appropriate. Guest guest
Thanks Pete: I often have trouble trying to figure out how much of the presenting problem comes from beta coherence since there is nearly always something else going on. Often times that something else is more fundamental. Sometimes it is filter or processing in addition to the Co problem. It seems like Beta Co is a byproduct of the struggle with some other problem and no an issue that stands alone. I wonder if that is your experience as well.
