Guest guest
Dave, With very young (less than 7 or 8 years) ADHD, any autistic spectrum, Tourettes kids--the ones who have precious little body control--I usually just start with training up 12-15Hz (as a starting point, bringing the frequency down until we find "SMR" for that client) at C4, reducing 2-5 Hz. I do this for up to 10 sessions until we are seeing some ability to calm and still in the chair. Then an assessment can be done. If you get off on the right foot, even with the fairly young kids, you can often get one, but it's more fun for everyone just to start training while you still have novelty and good will to work with. I use bioexplorer with brainmaster 2.0 but do not have QEEG equipment. As a psychologist I feel comfortable assessing and diagnosing these kids but would like some sense of what is going on in their eeg's before I begin training. Or, do folks just follow a set protocol for ADHD kids. Thanks for any help you can provide. Dave
Guest guest
Dave I agree with everything that Pete has said .. I work with ages 4 to whatever. I have to say that working with BioExplorer has made it SO MUCH easier, and if you know how to "tap dance" ..or did clowning as a part time job in the past you've got an edge. Sometimes Mom can help by holding the child. I don't usually fuss with finding a reward frequency.. but inhibit high and low at C4 T4 P4 and F4 or F8. But you also might wanna ask Pete about the Van Largo squash. I've yet to see it fail to calm a child. Good luck,

Guest guest
Mark, This protocol was developed by Long (Largo), an early participant in BrainTrainer, and myself. had a great benefit at that time, in that he was a completely novice in the area of brain training, and he was completely unaware of (and undaunted by) all the things he "shouldn't" do. He contacted me back-channel and asked if he could run some of his (creative) ideas past me, and I said I'd love that. He did, and I did, and the only one that (after the idea was ping-ponged back and forth a few times) ended up on my permanent list was the Van Largo Straddle. The Van Largo straddle works like this: Put one electrode at Cz (call this #1) Put one electrode at T4 (call this #4) Put two more electrodes equidistant between these two (call this #2--closer to Cz--and 3--closer to T4) You should now have 4 electrodes arrayed even distances apart from the center of the central strip to the top/front of the right ear. Plug 1 and 3 into channel 1; plug 2 and 4 into channel 2. Train up SMR (best if you have figured out what SMR is for the client before you try this). Usually works like a charm. Guest guest
Mark Since Pete answered, then I'll give you the -twist on the VanLargo straddle. Prolly everyone knows that I either don't do SMR (finding the sweet spot, especially with non-verbal kids from 4 up){or I'm too impatient}, so rather than train SMR, I do a windowed squash with the same placement.... which I've dubbed the VanLargo Squash ..
