Guest guest Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 We use Optifast for 4 weeks pre-op and it is very successful. Most patients lose between 10-30 lbs. in that timeframe. They also attend group every week with either a behaviorist or a dietitian to learn about behavior modification as well as for peer support. Honestly though, most patients do not like the Optisource which is the bari product used post surgery and end up purchasing either SF CIB or a SF pro powder or drink from GNC. Good Luck! The surgeons with whom I work are finding good surgical outcomes after quick weight loss 2 to 3 weeks prior to surgery. I have placed patients on a high protein, low carb diet with weight loss ranging between 10 and 30 lb., depending on the patient's pre-surgical weight. However, they want me to investigate other possible high protein, low carb products or regimes. Has anyone used products by Smartforme? We were looking at Optifast, but the surgeons were not happy with all the "red tape" involved with Optifast. If anyone has used the Smartforme, or any other products pre-surgery, I would appreciate any feedback on your results, satisfactions with the product(s), cost to the patients, palatability, etc. Thanks so much.Margee Romportl, MS, RD, CDAspirus Wausau HospitalWausau, WImargeer@... __________________________________________________ Quote
