Dear Jan..The dry container is great for other things. I made egg salad in mine the other day…chopped the celery first slowly and then dropped the eggs in. The blades are fashioned to throw the 'stuff' up and it does not pack under the blade as it will in the wet container. It has made any crumbs I needed to make….dry bread, Graham crackers..so that is fine. It is small tho and I plan to use it to make chicken salad and other things that will be in small quantity….Experiment! You really find lots of uses for it..ShirleyOn Jun 8, 2012, at 1:57 PM, Jan wrote:

Corm meal using popcorn. (Thank you ... I think it was ) rice flour.

I love it for breading items. It darkens nicely. Any kind of crumb since it

tosses stuff up.

I just reread that link Lea Ann I must start using mine more. Bet it's easier to clean than my food processor. Actually I think I'll buy dry containers for Ivete and maybe Colleen or Luda. I bought them their machines and they love them, maybe a small wet container for Colleen. She's my BFF and her husband just went into a nursing home. So sad, only three days before her 50th wedding anniversary. Do you make doughs in the dry or wet container? I'm wondering if I can do my pizza dough in the Vitamix. That uses 3 cups flour or a tad less, 2 T of olive oil, 1 t salt, 2 packages of rapid rise yeast and 1 1/4 cup warm water. I normally do it in my Kitchen Aid and let it knead for 10 minutes on 3 and/or 4. I'm wondering if that's possible in one of the Vitamix containers. Would it knead the dough faster and enough?TerrySent from my iPadHDOn Jun 8, 2012, at 2:24 PM, Lea Ann Savage <lsavage@...> wrote:

So I looked back to see the link "using the dry container as a food processor/chopper" and I'm wondering if the "salsa in the dry container experiment" worked? :) I am so interested to hear what other things people use the dry container for. (I actually have afood processor that I thought I would use all the time but never really remember to use it or have ideas of things to do in it.) i have been curîous about the dry container as well, (and bought it! My favorite use for the dry container is to make chicken salad http://blenderlady.com/recipes/#Chicken%20Salad - our Janet made it for me, and brought it to me while I was doing my last show in ville, FL. It was DELICIOUS!

The salsa turned out great. I was able to pretty much fill the container and chop it all up using the tamper. The dry container isn't a LOT different than using the wet container, but different enough that I can get more volume in one batch. In other words, If I were making chicken salad, http://blenderlady.com/recipes/#Chicken%20Salad I could chop 2-3 stalks of celery at one time rather than 1-2, and shred a bigger quantity of chicken than I could with the wet. Things don't pack into the corners as tightly as they do with the wet container.

After making countless pasta and bread dough in my Cuisinart Food Processor and watching the machine jump around as I add flour to the wet ingredients I can't imagine using the Vitamix for this process.   I use two hands to gradually feed the flour to my bowl and while my food processor bowl is locked to the base the Vitamix container is not.  I am afraid that the container of the Vitamix will jump off the base as I add the flour.  While the Vitamix is a wonderful machine I believe the food processor still has a place in my kitchen. Tonight I made one of my favorites; a pan seared rib eye steak with a red wine-beef stock reduction, an ear of corn, sautéed zucchini with some Caribbean spices, and a baked potato.  Tom    From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Terry PogueSent: Friday, June 08, 2012 3:14 PM Subject: Re: Dry container I just reread that link Lea Ann I must start using mine more. For breads of all kinds I generally use my Kitchen Aid stand mixer but I can use

my Food Processor for Pita Dough. One trick I discovered is I put all the dry

ingredients in first, give it a brief spin to mix all the together and when I

add the warm water I have to do it all at once. If I tried to add it a little at

a time the dough wraps around the shaft and well stop the machine. But add the

water fast it forms the dough ball and I have it kneaded in about a minutes as

opposed to the 12 minutes in the stand mixer.

I have done it both ways and I like to add the dry to wet especially for

pasta dough. A food processor makes short work of making pasta dough.

While I have a stand mixer I learned to make dough with my food processor so

I have stuck to that.

I'm certainly going to try adding dry to wet. I have done pasta dough in the

food processor but I think i did it wet to dry. Soooo, I'll switch and try it

your way. Always looking for any improvement. The last pasta I made was just a

week or so ago and was sheets for lasagna. I used ap flour, eggs, salt… but for

spaghetti I love the semolina pasta. Makes really great texture. There is a

picture on my flickr site with the recipe if you're interesting.

I settled in on Ann Esposito of Chao Italia pasta recipe long ago and

it has worked well for me. After about adding 3/4 of the flour mixture the

ball will form and I stop the mixture to see if it is too wet. If it is I

add a little more flour or hand mix it until the dough is firm and dry. If

your mixture gets too dry you can add a little water to reform the ball.

When the ball forms I think you will see what I mean about the possibility

of the Vitamix jumping off the base when making pasta dough because the

container is not secured to the base as a food processor is.

I do understand what you mean. The ball is really thrown around in the food

processor and whacks against the sides of the bowl. You've a good point.

I used to watch Esposita years ago. I'll go check out her pasta recipe. I love

homemade fresh pasta. I never buy fresh pasta in the supermarket altho I do buy

the dried pasta there.

Thanks for the link.

Hello Pat,Here is a great resource for information on comparing the dry to the wet containers: /links (look for the second link/folder from the top titled, "Container Questions" - the first link is to the Recipes Folder)But in short - the dry container is for grinding grains into flours, and coffee beans into coffee grounds.

What sort of things do you use the dry container for?

Peanut butter is made in the wet container?

Thanks!
