Guest guest
I have a patient who had bariatric surgery about a year ago, and is now complaining of increased gas and very smelly stools. I don't know if this has anything to do with fat malabsorption or just food choices. Does anyone have any recommendations for gas? Thanks in advance, M. Guest guest
You might want to try probiotics to introduce beneficial bacteria. Dannon is now selling a probiotic drink in the dairy section of grocery store called DanActive which contains L Casei and has 10 times the amount of beneficial cultures as one container of yogurt. The RN I work with sayes it's reduced her daughters gas significantly & she's just taken one 3.3 oz bottle per day for 4 days. Please give feedback if this is helpful. , MS, RD > Gas Problems > > I have a patient who had bariatric surgery about a year ago, and is > now complaining of increased gas and very smelly stools. Guest guest
M. Amernick, Try Devrom from Parthenon Co. Seems to work with both proximal bypasses and malabsorptive procedures although my experience with the latter is small. Guest guest
Our patients complain about this as well. I have found good help for some, not all, with a probiotic and particularly the bifido.... one (sorry I do not know the whole name!) Diane Olson MS RD CDE UW Health Bariatric Surgery Program University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (608) 265-1718 dolson3@... gas problems I have a pt that is about 4 wks out from Roux-en-Y surgery and is complaining of VERY foul smelling gas. She is lactose intolerant and is taking lactaid pills with her yogurt and using lactose free milk. I didn't notice anything in her diet. Is this a problem that is common? I have never seen it before. Is there some treatment? Thanks. ------------------------------------
