ASBS Guidelines

Hi everyone.I am currently working part-time for two bariatric surgeons. I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the ASBS Nutrition Module that I could get a copy of? Or at least get a copy of their nutrition guidelines. Since I couldn't make it to the conference I'm not able to get a copy. Thank you in advance.Beth Hersh, RD,LMNTAlegent HealthOmaha, NE

My understanding is that a committee is being formed to develop these nutrition guidelines, but that nothing is available yet. Am I mistaken?

Hello all

I am new to the site and have learned a great deal from everyone. Of the 4 outpatient dietitians in our health system, I have been designated to be the "go to gal" for the bariatric patients because I was fortunate enough to have worked with 2 exceptional Bariatric surgeons at the University of Minnesota Hospital about 2 years ago. I am not associated with a specific surgical group or bariatric program. I see many different patients from many different surgeons for Pre-Op nutrition evaluation for insurance requirements. Some of the surgeons have RDs on staff that hold seminars, however I'm finding that they are coming to me either prior to picking a Doctor, or in lieu of seeing the particular surgeon's RD.

I have been assigned the task of forming a pre-op assessment/evaluation form as well as a standard education packet for post op bypass nutrition guidelines. Basically I have 2 areas of concern.

I wanted to know if anyone knows the status on the ad hoc nutrition committee and the development on the nutrition guidelines? Has it been formed? Has the process been started? Has a target date been established for the presentation of the final product?

I have read the site files and gathered much information on education style and layout. I don't want to go ahead and devote many work hours to developing my own materials if the ASBS will be presenting guidelines in the near future.

Second, I have obtained some pre op tests and one assessment form form the site files. I wanted to ask if anyone else is in my situation? (where they see other patients with non related Diagnoses like DM, Renal, Celiac Disease, etc...) If so, Do you use one general form for all??? or do you have a specialized pre bariatric surgery form or form letter to be written to the insurance provider??

Any suggestions, samples, or references would be helpful.

Thank you

Leah
