I know I've been absent lately and I'm sorry. I got pneumonia and now that Don has the job in Oregon, we have to move. We are moving all during August. My neck is still sore, but most likely it is muscle problems. I'm getting better every day though. I'm reading all of your emails, and praying for each and every one of you. Take care friends....and please update us when you can.

Hugs,

Hi! I am here! Tomorrow I close on my house. I won't feel good until I know I have my house paid off. Also go to the ENT tomorrow. Hoping they can help me with not being able to talk when I allergies start up.

Well this is Anne and whats being going on, firstly I would love to say it weern't but it were so to speak, last Monday my nig old silver maple right outside my living room window took a terrible strike of lightening on a high branch, pieces of bark are still being found all over the place. The tree is an old one and survived,it is so strong.

The bolt traveled into the earth and entered the house via the phone jack, then x'd out the DTV receiver, the phone, the modem on this PC, and somehow shorted out the water pump, the fuses blew down there, was lucky.Especially so that I was not in the shower!

Everything is attached to surge protectors so I did not lose anything electric, the lights etc., so I was lucky there. I bought a new surge protector that also protects the phone etc. hookups, it interrupts surges coming through the phone jack. It is worth the 29.00 much cheaper than replacing electronics! Now no more hits will get into this house especially the phone lines.

Beyond that nothing much, I have the low blood sugar attacks back, they come and go and have for a long time I am fearful of more T-storms, so many of them this year. Used to like them at one time! Huh never again!

i am here. i am exhausted. uni is back and i am working part time and my

home help agency decided to bail on me at the time when i most needed

them. they finally now (after 2 weeks of work, uni and nobody at all to

help me at home) sent someone yesterday without warning me first. my

body is at the end of its rope and i don't know how much longer i can go

on this way. i need the money from work and i need the money from my

study payment but i really did not appreciate being left in the lurch by

home help. i planned to sleep in today (saturday) but home help turned

up at 9am. it was the dumb lady who has now been made " social support "

instead of " home help " so i had 3 hours this morning of pretending i was

glad to see her. if i was not so tired i would probably have had a good

time and gone somewhere with her but it was a struggle to keep my eyes

open for the 3 hours. this is one too many nights with not enough sleep

and i am wondering now at 5pm how i am going to do the bird cages this

evening. so much pain and i feel like i could fall asleep sitting right

here.

i have quite a few baby budgies at the moment. the oldest 4 of one

clutch are out in a cage learning to eat by themselves because in the

nest they would not even try just ate up the poop inside the nest and

act like little babies whining at the parents. the parents have 7 chicks

so they don't need the stress of having chicks staying in there longer

than they need to. the lazy little sods would not even stand up properly

just lie on their tummies like babies. now that i put them in a cage

they realised that it is up to them to walk across to the food dishes so

they stand up like normal birds now. they are very cute. i will be sad

to see them go when the time comes to sell them.

It will be no good starving yourself to lose weight, never worked with me,try putting less on your plate each day and eat a well balanced diet to boot, that way weight loss happens and your body does not go into' starvation' mode where it can exist on much less without losing more weight In any case 2lbs weekly is much better even if slower.

Anne ( been there done that)

That is so true. As my skinny hubby says "you don't put it on overnight"

It can be lost a little bit at a time and you don't even have to diet just make life style changes. That way there is no diet to go off of when you are done, you just get use to the new way. Sounds so easy and it is just takes patience.

Shirley,

I had a doctor that wanted to put me on appetite suppressants too, and I had my husband tell him exactly what I eat. The problem with me ( I think) is my metabolism. I just don't have an appetite anymore. I really have to force myself to eat just two meals a day. I get so sick and tired of doctors believing that people are overweight because they eat too much. It is baloney! There are a million reasons a person could be overweight, eating too much just happens to be one of them, but not all. If you aren't comfortable with the appetite suppressant, don't do it. Personally I'm very leery of any of those like phen-fen and such...some people had some really serious health problems from it. I'm sure it did help some people, but this sounds like a newer medication to me. Don't let the doctor pressure you...you know your body better than he does.

Hugs,

Re: Roll Call!

I am around. The week has been a hectic one. In addition to a busy class week, I had an MRI on Wednesday afternoon for my knee. I had a previously scheduled appointment with a doctor yesterday. It was to make sure the extreme fatigue and weak immune system really are part of the endo package and not some other problem that could be easily fixed. I go back in tomorrow morning so they can draw blood (after an 8 hour fast) to check a variety of things that could explain the fatigue as well as the general health things like chloresterol levels.

In some ways I liked the doctor I saw yesterday. He actually believes in things like vitamins and is knowlegable about them. The only thing I didn't like was that he immediately fixated on my weight and that I needed to loose weight. I don't disagree but I also know that before I started having so much pain I was much fitter and healthier. Up until now, all the bad things that are upposed to result from being fat were fine (chloresterol levels, blood surgar levels, blood pressure, etc.)

It seems that helping me manage the pain, fatiuge and now my knee injury would be a good start in dealing with wight since less pain and more energy would translate to more activity in my life which will lead to being more fit.

He wants me to start taking an appetite supressant called adipex. I am not comfortable with that idea for a couple of reasons (1) I haven't done research to try and determine if the particular medication is reasonably safe and (2) I don't know that I really need it--today I have had coffee, a pile of grapes and a handful of almonds for lunch, and forced myself to eat maybe a cup of bean soup tonight. That doesn't really seem excessive to me. Yesterday I had coffee, a pile of grapes and a burger and fries; while the last wasn't healthy that doesn't seem like much for an entire day either. So far today I have had less than 1/2 a cup of mixed dried fruit and nuts.

He also is setting up a referral to a weight loss program. I don't know enough about it yet to know how I feel about it specifically.

I suppose if taking this pill for a few weeks and at least checking out the program lead to me being taken more seriously by medical professionals it might be worth it. In terms of actuallly becoming healthier fix my blasted knee so it doesn't hurt to walk and help me figure out ways to manage the pain and fatigue so it doesn't control my life. As for the prescription, I am not going to have it filled for a couple of days. I need to think about it and research adipex more.

In good news, since going off the aygestin the pelvic pain and pressure has improved some.

Otherwise, I am still slowly trying to unpack boxes from the stuff I moved up from Florida a couple of weeks ago.

That is it from my corner of the world. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Yeah, he's okay. You know, you can perform the heimlich on yourself if you are choking by using a chair and thrusting yourself upon it, kind of hard to describe because you have to do this upward motion....but it just might help to ease that fear :) I'm learning to sit on my hip, but I've always had trouble with my hips anyway, so they aren't happy about it. I do this rotation, where I sit on my tailbone for a while, then the right hip, then the left, then my stomach. So nothing can get too mad at me :)

I have had a bigger problem one that I thought I got rid of over twenty years ago. That is Agoraphobia. In other words just too afraid to leave the house. I though that I was hiding it pretty good from hubby cause I went out a couple of times in the last few weeks. He told me that it wasn't working. At least now I don't have to make up stories. He says that he is going to try to help me with it. Now I am going to try to go somewhere Monday but my poor mind is already trying to think of ways out of it.

Amylee,

This is kind of the same boat I'm in. I don't want to even go check the mail. I force myself to though. It used to be that if I was in the house for a few days I'd get cabin fever and I'd have to drive around the block just to take the edge off. Now, I haven't left the house since my birthday, October 11, and that was a quick trip to a local drugstore. It must be a huge relief to have that hiding monkey off of your back. I honestly think this may have something to do with the fact that I switched antidepressants.

Anne,

I hope I know what to do, I've been a nursing student (need to transfer credits and find a college) and I am cpr/first responder certified. I have a bazillion first aid kits! Until I had to give my Aunt the heimlich earlier this year I hadn't ever used it on a real person, then Don today. I hope it's not catching :)

Re: Roll Call!

Good girl!

You knew exactly what to do when the choking happened. A lot of people do not know this simple procedure and should learn, we never know when it may save a life

Amylee,

I always have to talk myself in to going anywhere anymore. When I do, I usually have fun, but until then I make a bazillion excuses. Its rainy and I don't know where my umbrella is.....the car might not have enough gas.....the car might have problems....etc. It never fails though...I have a good time usually, then I have to try to motivate myself again.

Sounds to me as if you might be mourning your friend's death. Could that be it? I did get out yesterday. Went to Costco and to my Grandmother's nursing home. I gave her her birthday present I crocheted for her, and her favorite snack--Cheetos. It felt good, it really did. Now if I can just do it again. :)

Mourning for her and also feeling sorry for myself.

I am glad that you got to get out. I bet your grandmother really enjoyed the present and I am with her Cheetos are the best. I am still going to try to go to bingo tonight. I will be going by myself so it should be interesting. I will email everyone when I get back to let all know how it went AND if I went.

Well can't use rain as an excuse. lol. My biggest excuse is the traffic. The way that people drive really does scare the crap out of me. Seeing that wreck last night was no help. I am trying to do some self talk that is positive. Have you ever noticed that negative self talk is just so much easier. I am going to practice this every day until next Monday and then get my butt to bingo again. Everyone here is such a big help.

Do you have a nice place in your yard, or just a place to sit outside the back door, or close enough to home you could come right back if you want to? Maybe a park close by? You need a safe place, where you feel comfortable. And I'm sure that when you get to feeling better you will want to venture out.

We have a big yard so that will be a good idea. Thanks.

Oh my! How I can relate! Yes, with the dizziness I have found myself in many predicaments. I finally agreed to using a walker in public, and for inside the grocery store, I have learned to use the electric carts. It really has helped, because even though I do get dizzy sometimes even with the walker, it is easier to ask for help because people can see that you really do need help. Without the walker, no one can visibly tell that I have any illness, and just seem to look at me like I am crazy! My family is really good about helping me, however there have been times that someone will just stand in my way, forgetting that I need to ho;d onto counters etc. in the house, and cannot walk around them.

That is great that you learned to use the cart. I look at them at walmart and they have a bunch I found out I just think I am afraid I will run over someone. I think it is also the whole looking disabled thing. I am still working on that. It is great that you can ask for help. I am having the same problem with my son. He will be fourteen in Feb and needs to learn to advocate for himself. For those of you that don't know he has autism. He really needs to do this before he turns 18 because I don't want to get gaurdianship on him. I want him to be independent. Well the problem with that is that he has always had a healthy self esteem and will not even discuss being disabled. I guess both him and I can both work on this. lol.

Hi ,

I am here and all is well, now that the little grandson is ok! I am

frustrated at the moment, but things will be better someday. My oldest son's

girlfriend visits here regularly. last night, she spent the night, and had

two dogs with her. She had them in my grandchildren's fenced in play area

behind my house. There is a patio between the play area and the house. As

she was getting ready to leave this morning, my youngest son informed me

that there is dog poop all over the play area and patio. I sent a message

out to my oldest son that it needed to be cleaned up, and it never was.

I just spoke to the girlfriend on the phone, and told her that she is

welcome, but the dogs are not. We have a dog ourselves, but not on the

patio, or the play area!

I am sorry; just needed to vent! LOL

I am glad that he is ok. Also glad that you know how to use the Heimlich. I

try to stay updated with First Aid and CPR. You just never know when you may

be faced with a situation.

Hi All,

Sorry had not been in touch for a long time..... been overwhelmed with work again.

Went for an occipital nerve block and facet injection about a month ago. But the pain-relieving effect practically worn off in almost exactly 3 weeks! Now the pain is creeping again.

I was supposed to be at a 4-day national exam marking session last week. However, after 3 days of doing nothing but marking exam scripts, the pain was unbearable..... my friends brought me to the clinic and i passed out there. When I woke up, it was already the next morning and I was in bed. Sigh.......

I guess both him and I can both work on this. lol.

I've been wondering how you've been. The people that give you tasks are

trying to help by keeping you busy. I tend to do that myself when I'm

having a hard time. You can always talk to us here if you're feeling

lonely...though I know it isn't the same.

Hugs,

Hi ! I'm on no-mail right now. This cold, rainy weather is

too much for my achy neck. I took out my down comforter last night.

I did have a nice trip to Portland and Seattle. Of course it rained

there too!~
