Guest guest
Ok, I am reading this first article now, and wanted to point out that *hydrogenated* coconut oil is the oil banned from movie theaters. Also that folks have shown *reduction* in bad LDL colesterol by using virgin coconut oil, not an increase- hydrogenated would produce an increase. I didn't go find articles to back that up right now, because I don't have the time to look them up, but wanted to pass on that info. I also want to point out, that I don't advocate *adding* oil to the diet (Unless you don't get enough!! Yes, we *do* need some fat!). I recommend *replacing* other fats with coconut oil. :~) Thia On Wed, Apr 22, 2009 at 11:17 PM, Sparrow R <sparrowrose@...>wrote: > > Here's some information about that (arranged from most > accessible to the layperson to most scientific): > > http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=52214 > http://www.answers.com/topic/medium-chain-triglycerides > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium_chain_triglycerides > http://www.nutritionreview.org/library/mcts.html > http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/full/132/3/329 > > Sparrow > >
Guest guest
Is yours Tropical Traditions? There is another one- Artisana. They call their whole coconut " coconut butter " . (Which is misleading, because many folks use the term " coconut butter " interchangeably with " coconut oil " when referring to the oil rather than whole coconut.). I haven't tried it yet. I'd love to know if there are others!! By the way, try blending (in a food processor) the coconut cream with soaked raisins (with some of the soak water), and put in mini muffin cups (I use silicone), then in the fridge to harden. Sorry, I don't measure; maybe half and half? Or there's someone in my case where I probably get enough fats (a couple of tablespoons of flax, a small handful of nuts or seeds, an occasional avocado - maybe two a month) but I have a hard time getting enough calories which makes me vulnerable to overeating on nuts (which are acidic so could throw me out of alkaline balance pretty quickly) so a spoon or two of coconut oil would really help out even though I probably don't need more fats. Guest guest
With all this talk of coconut oil, gmail's target ads told me about a sale going on until Sunday. You can get 48 ounces of organic virgin coconut oil for $25. One gallon for $70. 16 ounces of coconut cream for $10.99. No idea what shipping is. Just thought I'd pass the info along since it came to my e-mail box. Guest guest
I actually used to sell Virgin Coconut Cream as a hair conditioning treatment!? I took care of my great niece for a few months (2 year old) and she had very frizzy hair and I would sit her in my lap and brush?the coconut cream?through her hair every? morning - the only way I could get a brush through her hair!? Her hair? - ?I didn't wash it out as it seemed to soak up the coconut oil but I think straighter hair would have to be washed after leaving it in for 30 minutes or so.? Guest guest
Yes! tropical traditions is wonderful, and that is a great sale. Unfortunately I had picked up on their sale earlier of buy one get one. The current sale is buy one get two! That's a heck of a deal, but I have plenty to last me for quite a while right now. They run new sales weekly. They have an email list to get the sales sent to you. You can get an estimate on shipping while in the cart before committing to the sale. :~) Thia On Thu, Apr 23, 2009 at 4:42 PM, Sparrow R <sparrowrose@...>wrote: > > > With all this talk of coconut oil, gmail's target ads told me about a > sale going on until Sunday. Guest guest
I use coconut oil on my hair form time to time (great hot oil treatment!), but have never used the cream. I'm thinking the cream I have must be different, as it has coconut meat, as well as the oil. (The two are not separated, but creamed together.) I don't think it would work for hair (the brand I have). Guest guest
Coconut has been rising steadily for several years now. My first 50 lb. pail was something like $40. The second was $60, and I was shocked. Now, that would be a bargain. I don't know whether it's being used in biofuel production, or if it's weather-related, or what. There are so many factors involved. OK, I googled, and here is the first link I found explaining the price: http://liberationwellnessblog.com/2011/04/22/is-there-a-shortage-of-coconut-oil-\ and-other-healthy-coconut-based-foods/ ..
