Guest guest
My local health store owner says she uses coconut exclusively in her own home -- you use it for anything you would use any oil for. She provided me with good info about it, then at the end her eyes brightened up. She said one of the best ways is to eat it PLAIN RIGHT OFF THE SPOON (make sure you have virgin coconut oil, NOT the saturated fat version). My first taste I didn't really love it. But the 2nd time I did. I have to be careful. I could eat it like candy -- so I don't usually try to lick the spoon, lol. I don't wanna feed an addiction. It IS tasty and does have benefits right off the spoon. It does get solid but turns clear liquid at about 80 degrees (a few degress above room temp). I don't fry a lot anymore, but she told me she loves a fresh egg slowly cooked/fried in the coconut oil. I don't usually have eggs in the house, but I tried it and liked that, too. I make a lot of things in the super blender I have -- I add a half spoonful to like raw (blanched in boiling water for about 2 or 3 seconds, then cooled quickly) raw cashews -- also read up on this so you will know about it's energy giving properties. The other morning shoveling snow, I tried a spoonful of this in a drink first -- I really noticed better energy levels during shoveling. I read a great amount on dietetics and nutrition and work out at a fitness center every day or every other day usually -- so I know that for my own body, the oil does provide " instant energy " . There's all kinds of things you can do with it in the kitchen. I have to slow down my use of it. It's fun to experiment. I tried, for example, soft cream cheese/real butter/coconut oil. I mixed it up and use it on toast, just a little bit tastes really cool, I think. I also LOVED cooled boiled potatoes with spice rack sage (omit if you want) and tumeric (a little) and parsley -- have a few bits red pepper or whatever mixed in if you want -- then just drizzle plenty of liquified (over 76 degrees) coconut oil. That was a good, fresh tasting potato dish. Great snack. Have fun. Here's a copy/paste about digesting this : Modern research shows that the medium chain fatty acids help to increase metabolism and are more easily digested than fats found in other oils. This is because they are processed directly in the liver and immediately converted into energy. There is therefore less strain on the liver, pancreas and digestive system and these MCFA provide the body with a wonderful, quick source of energy. Guest guest
there are some really good books. I like " the Miracle of Coconut Oil " it has some good recipes in it. You can check it out from your local library or find it at a health food store. However I can actually read and write as well obviously...>>>>SHAME<<<<< Basically I had a bad experience with jojoba oil. It was a blend someone had given me while I was expecting, nearing the birth of one of my children, 'JASMINE IN JOJOBA OIL'. Jasmine is good to use once full term is reached as it stimulates uterine contractions. (God I hope I am right here..) My sense of smell is acute and even more so during pregnancy. The oil had become rancid! I rubbed it on my belly before I smelled it, something I will never do again. It turned me off jojoba and I never gave much thought to using after that, even when recommended. I didn't give it a chance, do you know what I mean??? I feel so unbelivably stupid. And I promise you I'm not REALLY!! It never occurred to me that the carrier oil in the blend may not have been real jojoba oil, maybe it was a cheap vegetable oil!!! Anyway I'm all heart and nose and I promise I do have a bit of a brain. So please don't BAN ME!! Did I mention I was SORRY! AND WRONG! Guest guest
> So it is safe to say that jojoba is a natural preservative? Jojoba oil does resist rancidity longer than most fatty oils, perhaps because it is more a liquid wax than a fatty oil. But neither its antioxidant properties nor its antimicrobial action are sufficient for it to be used as a preservative. Still, products it is used in will need less protection from oxidation. If so, RELAX! I wasn't freaking out, so you shouldn't. To be perfectly honest, this entire field drives me crazy before for every piece of information I learn I can find another one that contradicts it. So when you posted that jojoba can go rancid, I just chalked it up to that. So it is safe to say that jojoba is a natural preservative? I'm just trying to keep things straight because friends are asking me to make body scrubs for them (I've made them for myself for awhile) and I want to make sure they last since I can't guarantee how soon my friends will use them up. I don't like using chemicals so I was going to add jojoba as a preservative (I make my own frequently enough that I don't worry about it). Beth -- " It's kind of fun to do the impossible. Guest guest
I am one of the people that has done WFN group orders in the past. I will probably do an order after the new year - probably closer to the end of January. Email me off list closer to then (maybe the 15th or so) or I will post something here. I don't always re-post because often the orders are so big it becomes work. Sometimes people just start emailing me off list and things come together for an order. If this sounds vague, I am not trying to do that on purpose. I am just trying to avoid $2000 orders and all the packing peanuts that entails. Guest guest
You may also want to check into Mountain Rose Herbs ( www.mountainroseherbs.com). They have the cheapest prices around. Just got mine on Monday and it is over very good quality and very comparable to Nutiva's and Wilderness Family Naturals. Guest guest
I only tried the one jar, the second jar is still sealed. It is not marked as virgin oil, it is marked " organic " ; I bought it when I first started finding out about coconut oil, and didn't know any better. I suppose it could have been a bad batch, as far as taste goes, though. Maybe. I actually thought that was normal, so I didn't use any again for a long time, until I read about using virgin oil only. Then I looked to find a virgin one, found Nutiva, and it was soooooo much better. This stuff I enjoy right off the knife, and did, often. I still lick the knife after my bf gets into it for popcorn, as he did tonight. (It's rather cold here, so it stays solid most of the time-- until summer.) I can't say anything for the smell, as I have congenital anosmia. ie: I can't smell. My bf has smelled the Nutiva, and the Tropical Traditions for me in the past, and said they smell similar to each other, though. I've never asked him to smell the Spectrum. As far as loosing weight, all I did for many months, was substitute any oil I was using with virgin coconut oil. At the time, I did a lot of cooking (every night for dinner- and other meals too). We ate roasted root veggies slathered with the coconut oil, fried eggs, you name it. Plus I used it on my morning toast, rather than butter or margarine. At the time, I ate bread every morning. I should point out that prior to this I had tried really hard to loose weight, and was not doing well with it. I have continued to loose weight, up to now, even though I don't use the coconut oil so much any more, but my diet has also changed drastically since those times. Way more raw. Darn near completely. Guest guest
Not sure about the one you have, but if it's Tropical Traditions, coconut cream is whole coconut, creamed. Not just the oil. Yes, yummy stuff!! I use that when making nutmylk these days. (1/4 cup raw nut of choice, 1 tsp coconut creme, 2 cups water. pinch salt. raw honey to taste. Blend. If you have a regular blender start with half of the water, then add the other half, and blend again. Some nuts cream better than others, so you may choose to filter, depending on what nut you use. If you filter, you may choose to add the salt & sweetener after filtering.)
