Guest guest Posted January 26, 2006 Report Share Posted January 26, 2006 Carl, If bedbugs are in nesting in a mattress, treating the mattress with steam vapor (NOT traditional steam cleaning, which is not hot enough and uses too much water) should be effective. Fogacci, De Longhi and Jiffy make steam vapor machines, about $300-$400 I believe. I suppose if you are desperate, you could try a steam iron, but I don't know if the steam would be as effective. If done properly, the mattress should dry out in a few hours. Bedbugs, unlike mites, are too large to get into the mattress stuffing, unless there is a rip, so they hide in seams and under design elements. C.
