Story by Ward Email | Bio Teachers, parents and concerned community members sat down at Point Harmony Elementary School to hear for themselves how the school plans to move the second grade students -- who are now being taught in two moldy portable units out back -- into the main building. Says fifth grade teacher Dinah Adkins, " Even though it's going to be a difficult move -- and it's going to make the school crowded -- I think it's definately something that needs to be done. " Adkins says she's seen the effects of the moldy classrooms on Mrs. Nichols -- one of the second grade teachers -- who has been very vocal about the need to get her students and herself out of there. " I've watched it get progressively worse. " " If you walk into the room you can smell the mildew and the mold and it's just not a pleasant place to be, " says Tammy Vagheei, a Point Harmony parent. But she adds, news that the students are being moved out of the portable units as soon as next week, took her off guard. " It's always been told -- it's gonna be, it's gonna be soon -- they're gonna get rid of 'em and I'm surprised it's actually gonna actually happen. It's about time. " Point Harmony will be closed this Friday so that teachers can pack up their old classrooms and move into new temporary space inside the main building. " And hopefullly on Monday, " says Vagheei. " I think these teachers do need more adequate time to make the transition and I think the children deserve to have their classrooms in tact when they start back to school. " Superintendent Duerring would have to make a final decision on that.
