Guest guest
After having to move out of several moldy rentals my worst fears are here. My husband has not worked since around the beginning of December and we are going to have to move again. I had finally found a place that didn't have mold after moving 4 times since I got ill. I have had a terrible time with fragrances and cooking odors since we moved into this place, but atleast we didn't have mold. For the new people on this site --I would not hesitate to get out of your moldy place because if you get this multiple chemical sensitivity life is so much harder. I can't really go anywhere without having problems mostly with my lungs. When we started this nightmare we had the best insurance, money in the 401 and a full life. We are going to have to go stay with a relative, and I am very scared. I can't very well go in and demand them not to use fragrance or tell them what to use and not to use. Everyone knows I am ill but no one really knows how serious my illness has become. My husband knows and is good about it but he doesn't really read all this info and doesn't really know about the organ damage, etc. The last move my husband had a major seizure and then a blood clot a few months after we moved here around the 9/11 crisis. We did go through a marriage crisis but have endured that problem and are closer than ever, but the entire ordeal has caused us financial trouble, but we have managed this far. Unfortunately work got very slow unexpectly last month and we must move because we haven't been able to pay the rent. I am trying to hold it together. When we moved here I was very ill but atleast I could walk up the steps and help with the move, but now I can't even carry a grocery bag and walk up the steps. I am very afraid my health will get worse but also afraid of where to put our belongings as we have lost our belongings several times already. I have worked so hard these last almost 9 years writing to everyone I could think of, even did a personal injury case myself for about a year. Since there were several moldy places I had to include 2 landlords on the lawsuit so I was up against very powerful attorneys. I was very proud of the case I worked on--the attorneys put me through quite an ordeal but I had them worried and had Dr. Johanning's report linking my illness to the mold. I had samples sent to P & K Labs and had my evidence. I made it as far as depositions, providing my evidence, and I had a NY lawyer ready to take the case but had to get a local attorney and that was where I had the trouble. The people I was sueing had ties with most of the attorneys in my state or back then no one really heard of mold illness so that made it difficult. I just wanted to know that I would have the medical help I would need in the future and some justice but in the end the judge wanted to schedule the trial too soon and I couldn't hold off anymore. I documented everything had the health department, government officials, my aunt was even babysitting the governors children, he is now a senator. I thought I did everything right but apparently not. Since we had to pay so much to live in a safe apartment I have not been to a doctor for a few years. Even the asthma doctor was afraid to treat me after a while, they all acted like yeast was not a problem and ignored my elevated white count. I begged for them to test for parasites, food allergies but most of the doctors after a while said it was out of their realm of expertise so after a while I got tired of going to different doctors. Thanks for letting me vent. It is hard to believe this can happen to so many families.

I totally understand your reaction to fragrances since I have the same problem. No you cannot demand they change; however is there any possibility you could gentle explain that you have severe reactions and would they consider helping you and you might also suggest to them it would be in their best health interest also. If you will have your own room in this home; try to make it as least toxic as possible. We are here to help you with this. If you want I would be happy to speak to your relative to explain your needs. Do you have a charcoal face mask? >>>>>>>Since we had to pay so much to live in a safe apartment I have not been to a doctor for a few years. Are you taking anything OTC meds at this time? >>>Thanks for letting me vent. We don't just have an allergy and yes too many families are ill and don't know you. Sigh! Rosie PS If you want a good listener be happy to talk to you on phone. Send private email and I'll phone you later today.
Guest guest
My heart goes out to you all. This is what happens to a lot of people. Please get both of yourselves to a doctor and try to get on to cholestyramine..That may help with the environmental sensitivity.. (at least it has with me..) As far as the employment loss and health care lack of affordability.. Welcome to the health care crisis.. I doubt if it makes you feel much better but you are not alone.. millions of people are in the same position.. Whatever you do, make sure you can VOTE in the 2006 elections in November.. AND THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE.. This is a CRUCIAL period in this nations history. People like us need to speak up and DEMAND AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE FOR EVERYBODY THAT IS NOT TIED TO PEOPLES EMPLOYMENT... Few of us realize this but the workplace is changing. There is a movement to shift non-executive work offshore or to automate it. The 21st century will be the century of workplace automation.. In 20 years, only perhaps half of us - those with the world class skills to justify paying US wages, will work.. and the workplace will be very very competitive, so wages will fall.. Only the very best and brightest will be able to hack it.. Companies are not in the business of providing jobs. In fact, they are under fierce pressure to reduce emplyoyee counts. Technologies now in the pipeline will let them do that at a pace not seen since the beginning of the first Industrial Revolution in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.. This will cause massive social disruption.. (ever read Dickens?) Health care is crucial, because without it, formerly middle class people who get ill will be stripped of all of their equity very quickly.. and of course, they will lose their insurance when they lose their jobs..
