Speech at long last??? - Long

Hi Everyone,Not being able to sleep much / at all last night (no real changethere), but couldn't wait to post what happened in The Lodge householdyesterday evening...I was upstairs (on the Net - downloading all the Spring 2005 DANwebcast files) and was just sitting to watch & listen to DrNeubrander's presentation with the headphones on....Jo was upstairs folding up some ironing...Callum and Ellie-Mae were downstairs in the front room very happily"playing" & watching TV...All of a sudden, without any pre-warning Ellie-Mae (3.5 years old, NT)came to the bottom of the stairs shouting up at Jo and me (again, nota very uncommon experience, but...), that Callum (6.5 years old, ASD -Non Verbal) had spoken to her and told her to, "GET OFF"!!!Apparently he was sitting on some of her jigsaw pieces (whilst calmingand appropriately watching the TV) and wouldn't move - so she decidedto push him out of the way (see's quite aggressive like that) and hetold her to, "Get off"!!!I know that Ellie-Mae is very clever for her age and well advanced, but I can't / don't believe that she made up such a complete anddetailed story to deliberately decieve us (???) or for our reaction. She knows that Callum cannot speak (although doesn't understand why). She knows that I took him over to Chicago, USA to see Dr. Usman inFebruary 2005 to "try to help him to talk", but knows that he isn'ttalking yet.As you may know we've being doing a variety of interventions: ABA,vit & mins, enzymes, IgG2000, pro-biotics and MB-12 (MB-12 for 10 weeks- with a intro period of 5 or 6 weeks (start of March to mid April)without changing anything bio-med & non-bio-med) - as per Dr.Neubrander's recommendation. On the MB-12 front we've noticed improved focus, non-discriminateverbalisation / stimming, socialisation:In mid-April Callum woke up at midnight :-( and I offered him a drinkwhich he took (half asleep / half awake) a small drink, then pushed itback at me. I then asked him, "Do you want some more?" and he plainly/ although quietly said, "No" - Yippeee!!!Last Bank holiday (May Day 2005) - Callum non-verbally expressed hewanted to play outside with his sister & "friends" who were playingoutside in next door's garden (even though he was in Ellie-Mae'sbedroom bouncing on her bed looking out of the window). We went nextdoor and he played on the swings & garden toys with them for about 30-45 minutes, then went inside to watch videos - I / we we're thrilled!!On the downside - with MB-12 we've got lots of mouthing & chewing (hadto buy Callum a number of plastic teething rings (some of which he'sdestroyed in less than an hour :-( - because he's destroying all theplastic toys in the house - no real change there (Callum's alwayschewed plastic toys), but lots of intensity & lots of dribling.Callum is also exploring his mouth & body (he's a boy) - as if thesensations are returning???Callum is waking up and getting up at 2am, 3am, 4am, 5am... in themorning and not going back to sleep at all - we're doing sleep relaysbetween Jo an me :-(Immediate increase in non-discriminatory verbal stim / high pitchedscreaming & some more intense self-injurous (especially hand biting & some slapping & hitting others) - Though this is / has decreased overrecent weeks :-)Well thanks for reading - obviously we're cautiously excited - havingnot heard him say "Get off" yesterday, but hoping he'll repeat andexpand his vocab....very, very soon.Yours expectantly,Steve, Joanne, Callum & Ellie-MaeBarnsley, UK- XXXX -

Wow Steve and Jo

What brilliant news - typical of siblings to be able to provoke rsponses where us parents can't!

Just crack the sleeping and things will be really motoring along that road.

Also can you tell me what is Ig2000?

Hi

Everyone,

Not being able to sleep much / at all last night

(no real change

there), but couldn't wait to post what happened in

The Lodge household

yesterday evening...

I was upstairs (on the Net - downloading all the

Spring 2005 DAN

webcast files) and was just sitting to watch &

listen to Dr

Neubrander's presentation with the headphones

on....

Jo was upstairs folding up some ironing...

Callum and Ellie-Mae were downstairs in the front

room very happily

" playing " & watching TV...

All of a sudden, without any pre-warning Ellie-Mae

(3.5 years old, NT)

came to the bottom of the stairs shouting up at Jo

and me (again, not

a very uncommon experience, but...), that Callum

(6.5 years old, ASD -

Non Verbal) had spoken to her and told her to,

" GET OFF " !!!

Apparently he was sitting on some of her jigsaw

piec! es (whilst calming

and appropriately watching the TV) and wouldn't

move - so she decided

to push him out of the way (see's quite aggressive

like that) and he

told her to, " Get off " !!!

I know that Ellie-Mae is very clever for her age

and well advanced,

but I can't / don't believe that she made up such

a complete and

detailed story to deliberately decieve us (???) or

for our reaction.

She knows that Callum cannot speak (although

doesn't understand why).

She knows that I took him over to Chicago, USA to see Dr. Usman in

February 2005 to " try to help him to

talk " , but knows that he isn't

talking yet.

As you may know we've being doing a variety of

interventions: ABA,

vit & mins, enzymes, IgG2000, pro-biotics and

MB-12 (MB-12 for 10 weeks

- with a intro period of 5 or 6 weeks (start

of March to mid April)

without changing anything bio-med &

non-bio-med) - as per Dr.

Neubrander's recommendation.

On the MB-12 ! front we've noticed improved focus,

non-discriminate

verbalisation / stimming, socialisation:

In mid-April Callum woke up at midnight :-( and I offered him

a drink

which he took (half asleep / half awake) a small

drink, then pushed it

back at me. I then asked him, " Do you

want some more? " and he plainly

/ although quietly said, " No " -

Yippeee!!!

Last Bank holiday (May Day 2005) - Callum

non-verbally expressed he

wanted to play outside with his sister &

" friends " who were playing

outside in next door's garden (even though he was

in Ellie-Mae's

bedroom bouncing on her bed looking out of the

window). We went next

door and he played on the swings & garden toys

with them for about

30-45 minutes, then went inside to watch videos -

I / we we're thrilled!!

On the downside - with MB-12 we've got lots of

mouthing & chewing (had

to buy Callum a number of plastic teething rings

(some of which he's

destroyed in les! s than an hour :-( - because

he's destroying all the

plastic toys in the house - no real change there

(Callum's always

chewed plastic toys), but lots of intensity &

lots of dribling.

Callum is also exploring his mouth & body

(he's a boy) - as if the

sensations are returning???

Callum is waking up and getting up at 2am, 3am,

4am, 5am... in the

morning and not going back to sleep at all - we're

doing sleep relays

between Jo an me :-(

Immediate increase in non-discriminatory verbal

stim / high pitched

screaming & some more intense self-injurous

(especially hand biting &

some slapping & hitting others) - Though this

is / has decreased over

recent weeks :-)

Well thanks for reading - obviously we're

cautiously excited - having

not heard him say " Get off " yesterday,

but hoping he'll repeat and

expand his vocab....very, very soon.

Yours expectantly,

Steve, Joanne, Callum & Ellie-Mae
