Jan 9, 2006 11:37 am US/Eastern 19 Varieties Of Diamond Pet Foods Recalled (AP) COLUMBIA, S.C. South Carolina, along with the federal government, are investigating the deaths of dozens of dogs that ate contaminated dog food. All the animals are believed to have eaten the Diamond Pet Foods brand. The company has recalled 19 varieties of dog and cat food because tests showed high levels of aflatoxin. The substance is a naturally occurring toxic chemical from a fungus found on corn and other grains. South Carolina nursing student Shanika has to force feed her nine-year-old Chow, Cocoa, with a syringe six times a day. It suffered liver damage after eating tainted food. Her other dog, Chulo the pit bull, died of liver failure last month. Below is a complete list of brands and states involved in the recall.
