Sometimes my 4 y.o. will go to bed with a fever that I've treated with motrin

wake in the morning ater 10+ hours of sleep with no fever and an hour or so

later it spikes to 103.? I just mentioned it to his reumetologist on Tues and he

had no explaination.? Leg pain is a constant symptom with Evan.

Re: question

Hi gals,

I too feel in the same boat this past week. Zak, just turned 3, has

been " not well " since monday. He hasn't had a " classic " fever

since March, but we've been getting wierd lower grade temps, upset

tummy, mouth ulcers, and constant pain in his chest. I wrote earlier

that he had just started the cimenitine (sp?) on friday, on top of

his daily prevacid since we're not sure if it's reflux related???? I

feel frazzled today and have another call into the dr, as he is

miserable for the 8th day in a row. He's up and down, no fever over

102, but chest pain, says his whole body is icky, a little goopy

eyes, and LOTS of drooling! I don't know what's going on, but I'm

beginning to think that is not the answer! My frustrations and

prayers are with you both!

> 3 1/2 years old. started a new fevering

episode last Monday, 16 days since the last episode. She ran a fever

Mon., Tues., Wedn., Thurs. highest fever 101.7. No fever Friday or

Saturday. Then yesterday started again jumped to 102.7 last night.

She now is refusing to eat or drink, and complaining that her legs

hurt. has never stopped for a day or two then started back so

quickly and so strong. Question does anyone else have this happen

often.

Has Evan's dr's ever had an answer as to why the leg pain? No one has been able

to explain that to me.

Nope, I have never gotten a definative answer.? Only that it is his body's

response to inflammation.? Leg pain (usually below the knee)?always accompanies

his fever episodes and usually is a complaint just before an episode.? Prior to

a periodic fever diagnosis he had an episode so bad that he refused to walk on

his leg.? His ped. gave it a clinical diagnosis as Toxic Synovitis of the hip,

but without removal of synovial fluid it wasn't concrete.? We now know that it

was probably related to the periodic fever.

My oldest daughter actually had the Toxic Synovitis of the hip and they had to

do hip taps and such forth...When Sami started having the leg pains I was

worried to death it was the same thing. The way to know the difference is in my

older daughter if she was sound asleep and you moved her leg, she woke up

immediately screaming and her entire leg hurt. With my younger only the bottom

half of her legs hurt and you could move it slightly when she was asleep and she

did not wake up.

I know it probably differs with kids but I hope that helps,

My daughter stopped fevering after getting her tonsils removed so I'm

not on here much but I noticed the leg pain question.

Maddie always had leg pain with her fevers and sometimes leading up

to a fever also. I finally had an infectious disease doctor tell me

that the kids get inflammation in their joints with the fevers.

When Kiara first started her episodes it was for 15 days straight! Kiara was

looked at for sepsis in her hips, and everything else in the book. The only

thing that broke the cycle was IVIG and that only was a temporary solution.

Kiara had Intravenous gamma globlin..

often used in immune suppressed patients and is seen as a positive treatment at

this point of time for kiara as it works.

what made the doctors decide to try this method of treatment. did a test confrim

that she has a immune deficiency.

Has this treatment helped her leg and hip pain?

Sorry if i'm asking you a lot of questions just tring to figure out things -

just got off of a 10 day fever but has been complaining of her legs this

time for about 15 days. the leg pain seems to start before the fevers come. I

had to take my son 5 in today for the dr to look at a spot on his head. While i

was there was talking to the dr about he said that he and the I & D dr are

discussing sending to DUKE in NC. Which is only about 3 hours away.

Kiara has almost no IGa levels,., thus the positive response to IVIG

Yes it helped stop the 15th day of fever and then 18th. It was the only thing

they could think of doing.

Kiara id not a candidate actually for and the NIH feel she has something

else .. whether it is TRAPS and familial cold or something else. ALl they know

is they wont release her from the NIH at this point of time!

Treatment started getting to me by the time I was 10 months into it.I had to take a tylenol half hour before shot to settle me down to take the shot.Three shots a wk for 52wks can get to you after awhile. The pills didn't bother me as much as the needles.I hate needles and my attitude didn't improve during treatment.

I'm kind of the other way around. The shot, once a week, is not nearly as bad as swallowing pills every day. I'm beginning to have problems swallowing and I am only in week six. I've started swallowing with some type of food that goes down easy and pushes those pills down my throat. I know it's all in my head, but I'm not used to taking pills. I've always been healthy. Only take something now and then and then, it was over-the-counter stuff. Maybe that's why my liver wasn't scared any more than it was. Who knows? I'm kind of the other way around. The shot, once a week, is not nearly as bad as swallowing pills every day. I'm beginning to have problems swallowing and I am only in week six. I've started swallowing with some type of food that goes down easy and pushes those pills down my throat. I know it's all in my head, but I'm not used to taking pills. I've always been healthy. Only take something now and then and then, it was over-the-counter stuff. Maybe that's why my liver wasn't scared any more than it was. Who knows? Any possibility that it's just the differences becoming more obvious?

Our son seems to improve as he has aged in that he is more able to cope with

things.

Tonya

question

Can a child become more autistic as they get older? Just wondering.

Thank you, Jodi

I think its more obvious because there peers are

passing them up. Its not as obvious when they are

young because you are still parenting them like a

child. There are more expectations of behavior when

they become older, and you see there still like a

younger child. My stepson 18 is the oldest child, dad

doesn't realize how behind he is because he doesn't

have any older children to compare him too. I have

raised 3 children all adults and when I moved here it

was so strange to see a 17 year old with the abilities

of a 5 year old. It wasn't explained to me so I had

to figure it out on my own. I had a vision that our

kids would grow up and we would have our time

together, but now I realize he will never grow up. I

am trying to accept it and go with it.

My boys get swollen lymph nodes all over. once had one that was right

above his appendix that was swollen!

Peace of Christ be with you,

Pattie

Absence of proof is not proof of absence.

Hi, I am just wondering if anyone else's kids have lymph nodes that are very

promonent in the neck area? My son just finished a round of

antibotics and is getting sick again...I have been noticing that he gets the

lymph nodes and you can see them right before he gets sick...like right

before the fever starts.

thanks,

Jodi
