SO GLAD that you've already done it in your Vitamix and I don't have to - I can't make the stuff without eating some and it is really bad for me…I bet that "really awful noise" was a deep growling sound - am I right? If yes, that is THE sound you want to get when you are making nut butters. It means that the mixture is blending WITHOUT forming an air pocket. You can allow this gosh awful sound go on for about 30 seconds (which is quite a long time) and then it would probably be good to allow the motor to have a rest. There is a really good "tutorial" on "Scary Sounds/Smells" here:/links

Hello from Texas! I'm a newbie to not only this site but to owning a Vita-Mix. I've had a Vita-Mix on my wishlist for approximately 40 years....so yes, I'm dating myself somewhat here. I finally decided that regardless of what this year brings, I was fulfilling that wish list with my dream machine. I've been owned by her for about 3 weeks now - we're having quite a love affair.

Just to let you know - for Christmas, I have presented co-workers with 'Dean's Nutter Butter' - made to Lea Ann's specifications (thank you Lea Ann!). It was E-Z! If I can do it, you all can do it. I have to come up with 5 more jars of this 'most addicting' stuff so instead of M & Ms, I'm going to use the white chocolate morsels....mmmm!

I will say, however, there were times during the grinding that my machine made some beyond awful noise...sounded like it was grinding up the tamper...seriously. (It wasn't bogged - it wasn't slowing - but it actually was making some 'metal against metal' noise - scary!) I knew it wasn't touching the tamper and just tampered away, and it seemed none the worse for wear and tear when I made my next green smoothie, but I was having some second thoughts there for a bit.

Anyway, wanted to jump in here and introduce myself. I've already gained some great knowledge and confidence from this site and the many youtube videos - no regrets here with my investment, except maybe I should've bought this many, many years ago. If you're thinking about it, don't - just do it..go buy one! You're going to love it!

BTW - I guessed and just did 2 cups of each - turned out great!

I was thinking of trying this too! So just to clarify, does that mean 1/2 peanuts, 1/2 chocolate up to the 4 cup line? I haven't even tried regular nut butter yet but I assume your great tips for that still apply here?>
