Guest guest
Hi; There are two basic methods for making cream 1) Beeswax and borax OR 2) Emulsifying wax and stearic acid Unfortunately you combined both methods so it's not surprizing that your result isn't what you thought it would be. So you kind of hardened the cream twice. The waxy feeling is probably the emulsifying wax feel. May be you can list why you put each one in the cream? Sometimes if you ask yourself why you are adding something you will find duplicates in the formula and have a chance to re-think it... > > Yesterday I made up a batch of rich moisturising cream using beeswax, > emulsifying was, shea butter, coconut oil, avocado oil, glycerine, vitamin > e, water, borax & fragrance. > > I am less than thrilled with the result as I feel that it doesn't slide on > to the skin in the way I would like. I don't think there is anything you can do to save this batch. In future experiments make smaller batches and keep good notes. In your next batch leave out the glycerin, leave out the beeswax, try to find something besides borax as your secondary emulsifier, and add a preservative like Germaben ll or Germall Plus. Pat. Guest guest
Frangrant Greetings Ellen, I would suggest for a nice creamy texture and luscious glow to the cream add emulysifying wax at approximately 5%. Guest guest
......... The waxy feeling is probably the emulsifying wax feel. May be you can list > why you put each one in the cream? ....... Hi, Thanks for the response. I used the ingredients as per a recipe I found in a book from the library recently. I too thought it unusual to have both emulsifying and beeswax in the same recipe, but as I don't have a lot of experience with lotions (I recently started experimenting and have made up 3 or 4 recipes so far) figured the book must be right. I did however replace one ingredient - lanolin with shea butter as I would have expected lanolin to give the lotion a greasy feel. Thanks ChrissyG
Guest guest
Hi, I have a recipe for a cream that uses beeswax, but doesn't have borax. It is rather hard, more like a lotion bar, which it is not suppose to be. Would it be softer if I put borax in it. I have tried melting it down and adding more oil and water, but it still is rather hard. Laurie Ann. Guest guest
Hi: When I make creme, I use 490 grams of oils and 85 grams of beeswax, 13 ounces of water and a tsp of borax. The borax cuts the surface tension of the water and allows it to more readily combine with the oils. I know this is a large batch of creme but you can figure out the percentages and make your own accordingly. This creme is a firm set but easily used and not hard like a lotion bar at all. The higher the percentage of light oils you use, the lighter the creme will be. Re: waxy moisturiser cream Hi, I have a recipe for a cream that uses beeswax, but doesn't have borax.
