Guest guest
My last meal is usually after midnight. On the sleep thing, a lot of people restrict carbs in the evening, but I've found that if I have a protein-only meal late at night it makes me freakishly alert. I end up WIDE awake looking at the ceiling. Including some carbs in my last meal eliminates that problem. Carbs do happy things to the serotonin levels in your brain and help you relax and sleep. Bill has always said that cottage cheese and an apple was the best meal to eat right before bed. Most muscle repair and recovery happens at night while you sleep and it requires quality fuel. Remember, you're not talking about a big meal in your stomach late at night, just a few bites of cottage cheese and fruit, or a serving of protein pudding, or a piece of string cheese and a few strawberries. Keep it light and easy to digest, but don't skip meals just because the clock rolls past a certain time. Yes, absolutely you can have manual decongestive therapy after debulking surgeries. Infact, even after the surgeries it can be extremely helpful in controlling the lymphedema and in preventing some of the possible long term complications of those debulking surgeries. I know of several individual that have the therapy and who have had the surgeries..with good success. Guest guest
- I'll let someone else address the question about abs; you can also read what says about them at her website: http://www.skwigg.com/id31.html As for bulking up - I don't know what your current stats are, but it takes immense work and supplementation to turn into a she-hulk. It won't happen without you deliberately making that your goal. As Cosgrove wrote: It is extremely difficult for a female to become " big and bulky. " It usually takes a great deal of chemical assistance and years and years of training. I wouldn't worry too much about becoming " big and bulky " , it doesn't happen that easy... Just ask any man (who already has the hormones) how easy it is to build " bulk. " Welcome - n > > Ok, so I'm new to this whole BFL thing and I have a question. Guest guest
Nice abs are totally dependent on diet and cardio. Doing crunches and sit-ups and oblique twists, even for hours a day, wouldn't do a thing to improve them. The only way you can actually see sharp, well-defined abs is to get " thin-skinned " by lowering your overall percentage of body fat. Body for Life is an awesome program for that. It works exactly the way it's written, but if you'd feel better with a more ab-intensive approach, you can train them three times a week on cardio days using the Ab Boot Camp routine in the Files section. If you already realize that you don't have the hormones to get big, there's nothing to be afraid of... unless getting really tiny and lean scares you. ;-) > Ok, so I'm new to this whole BFL thing and I have a question. Guest guest
I think that this program is a jouney to see what your body will do. I actually put on muscle very easily (I found thru this program) but I am not a she-hulk by any means. I lost like 17-18 lbs of fat and gained 15 lbs of muscle and my body just looks so much better. Smaller, tighter, leaner. And I followed bill's plan for abs and mine look nice (no, not like Janet's but she had surgery). I still have a few fat pounds to get rid of but the abs are nice and can peek out from a bikini with no awkwardness. Actually when I look at my before pics I'm pretty amazed at how well I held that fat. I even managed to squish it into a size 6/8! My size hasn't changed, but my body sure has. I'm just less cluttered (imagine a house with lots of closets filled to the brim, that was me). Now you open my closets and things don't fall out. I've heard of others talk about the Ab Bootcamp if you feel the need. 3x/week or something. Do whatever you need to do to make yourself happy - but losing bodyfat is the best way to have fantastic abs. The one tweak I really liked (I did this after my first challenge by the book) is I did a set of Abs between every leg set (instead of resting 1 minute). I'm just a bit too anxious to sit for 1 minute! Enjoy the program, do it by the book to see how your body responds and then when your done you can tweak it to test things. You have to have some baseline to start with. Jami Posted by: " " oddohead@... oddohead1126 Thu Jun 15, 2006 7:44 am (PST) Ok, so I'm new to this whole BFL thing and I have a question. Guest guest
I was mainly worried because I am the same way. Meaning, that I put on muscle quickly and I wanted to look a little more lean than, say, Serena . But, I feel like as I lose the fat and put on the muscle then I will be lean. I'm a size six now (even though I am 5'9'' 153 pounds) and I'm aiming for a size 4. Thank you guys so much for your responses! What a great board! I have to laugh because we were just talking about this while people watching at the mall the other day! Is it because younger women refuse to get pants that actually fit them, or that they cant find the 'designers' in bigger sizes? Not that they have to wear 'mom' stretch pants up past their waists, but c'mon we dont need to see their buttcrack thong underwear either! Do they realize how BAD they look with the 'muffin top' over the tops of their pants? Most obviously dont as they even wear shorter tops to show even more of their guts! Ouch! if they only knew! Guest guest
how often i have commented on this -- those low riding jeans look good on some and awful on others. but so many young girls don't seem to notice how unflattering that look is on them. even if you have no extra abdominal body fat -- it depends on your particular shape if it's good on you. some women, i think just girls who have naturally wider waists, or narrower hips, it just doesn't work for them felicity > >> Ha ha, I love it! Guest guest
OMG, I'm 20 and SOOO many girls wear jeans that are super super super tight and have ALLL this fat hanging over... I wear my jeans high enough that it cuts right across my pooch, and if it creates a 'fat overhang' or muffin top or pooch I ALWAYS wear a super baggy shirt, usually a sweatshirt to cover it up... otherwise, I'm wearing looser jeans that don't make me spill over lol! Guest guest
Hi , Ideally glass containers are best for fermenting Kombucha. Kombucha being acidic should not touch metal as it may leach metals into your KT. Some folks use sun tea jars with the plastic spigot some prefer to use all glass. Some people also brew in plastic but I don't recommend it. Peace, Love and Harmony, Bev > > Hi! I'm new to kombucha and I'm getting prepared to start brewing. Guest guest
Hi , Bev and Everyone, I seriously recommend glass and totally agree with Bev. Metal never touches my brew. Up until the time my scoby is introduced to the sweet tea I do not worry about occasional use of metal objects. I do not store brewing tea or water or sugar in metal. I use a metal pan....very good stainless steel....to boil a bit of water to liquefy the sugar that is placed in a glass jar to dissolve. Never, ever put metal near KT. I'm pretty sure I'm absolutely right on this point. And I'm not going to change my mind...... And for all of you out there I'm not going to argue. There is way, way too much evidence that metal leaches into foods. None of that leaching is healthy. Do your research and get real. And for that matter.....plastic leaches too. So for the wise please avoid long contact with plastic or metal. I sure hope Ana Marie's scoby has arrived. I have to put scobys in plastic bags for shipment and to give away. I always recommend taking those scobys out of the plastic bags immediately. So far I have had no complaints about my scobys. I believe that those to whom I send scobys are ready and waiting with proper glass jars and sweet tea. Guest guest
Hi Indyrose, welcome to the group. I am and I am 47 years old. I have 3 grown children and 6 grandkids ranging from 12 year old twins down to an 8 month old. I love the Asics gel shoes and that is what I'm currently using, but I also have used New Balance cross trainers in the past and I love those too. You don't have to post your daily workouts if you don't want to, but it kinda does help keep you accountable to yourself, plus people like me love to see what other people are doing. You are lucky your library has workout videos, my library has a total of 1 and it is not a good one If you have netflix they also have some great workouts I am off to work now, but I just wanted to say hi and welcome. in CA > To: exercisevideos > Date: Tue, 26 Oct 2010 13:17:24 +0000> Subject: Newbie question> > 1 - Can I hear some feedback on brands/styles of SHOES used for workouts? Like, yesterday I was invited to the HealthPlex -- a big facility here in Indy. We warmed up with a 1/2 mile power walk, then hit the weight machines. I concentrated on lats and triceps. We did about 10 minute of ab floor work, and another 1/4 mile to warm down a bit, 10 minutes on a stationary bike, and then a relaxing stretch and swim in the pool. Guest guest
For workout videos you will want a good pair of crosstrainers (not running) shoes, as they allow for lateral, side to side movements that are used in kickboxing, step, hi-lo, dance, etc. You don't have to post your workouts, but it's helpful to us as video consumers to read reviews of workout videos. I love Turbo Jam!
