And, by looking at my results would you say this is Hyperaldosteronism? I do have a 2cm tumor on my left adrenal gland - CT scan confirmed it. Depends on your salt intake, othe drugs, time of day etc. Many bumps on the adrenal are just bumps can even only fat called lipomas. This is the reason one just does not take you bumps willy nilly. we need more details on your story of high BP, low K family Hx of low K etc. Do you eat licorice every day. This can cause low renin, low or normal aldo, high blood pressure and low K. May your pressure be low! Clarence E. When the first test was taken I was taking Dyazide 37.5mg once a day. Before the next test I was taken completely off of the Dyazide and was taking 50mg of Spiro and 10meq of Potassium 2x a day - so those are 2 of the drugs I was taking while I had the second test done. My salt intake is very low anyway. I was never a big salt user, or whatever you want to call it. As far as I know there is no family history of low K, BUT high BP runs all through the family - my mother, my aunts, my uncles, both grandmothers, both grandfathers, my brother, but not my father. No I don't eat licorice. Kathy

When the first test was taken I was taking Dyazide 37.5mg once a day. Now we are getting somewhere. Dyazide wil increase renin and aldo. Before the next test I was taken completely off of the Dyazide and was taking 50mg of Spiro and 10meq of Potassium 2x a day - so those are 2 of the drugs I was taking while I had the second test done. How long before and how long had you been off Dyazide. You cannot give me too many details! My salt intake is very low anyway. I was never a big salt user, or whatever you want to call it. Yeah but being from Missouri I like to measure the sodium and K in the urine to document you are/were on a low sodium diet. As far as I know there is no family history of low K, BUT high BP runs all through the family - my mother, my aunts, my uncles, both grandmothers, both grandfathers, my brother, but not my father. Then we need to consider the know inherited causes of HTN and the renin and aldo off drugs and on a normal sodium diet for a month or so (also need a 24 hr urine Na and K at the time the blood is drawn) will help with this. No I don't eat licorice. Do you eat or use licorice flavored chewing tobacco or snuff. Aagin you cannot give too many details. someone needs to work with me so we can put together the questions for our database which will decrease the times we need to answer the same questions and get the same information. Kathy May your pressure be low! Clarence E. I THOUGHT the Dyazide might have had something to do with my levels! From research I had done (before I found this group) I had found that these 'water pills' will cause you to lose potassium. My mother died from a heart attack at the age of 39 - My paternal grandmother died of a heart attack at the age of 39 as well - just a coincidence! My maternal grandmother died at the age of 78 and she had several heart attacks and strokes before she did die. My paternal grandfather died at the age of 78 - another coincidence and he died of a heart attack. Also my Dad has NO heart disease whatsoever. My maternal grandfather died at the age of 61. My mother's brothers and sisters all died of strokes and heart disease - the ages where when each of them died were (my mom) 39, 45, 58, and then 70. So, I don't know if my aunts and uncles would have anything to do with me, but I thought I would give you that info in case you had to know. > > > > Do you eat or use licorice flavored chewing tobacco or snuff. I forgot to add, I was taken off the dyazide 4/06 - I'm not sure how long I was off the pills before I had the tests done. I'm thinking it wasn't even a week before the tests.
