Inspra vs Spiro

Greetings

I was taking 150mg of Spiro per day for PA and was doing fine.

My Neph was concerned about signs of pooling in my kidneys and put

me on Inspra. He said that it would be easier on my system.

This was in Dec05

I just had a second opinion, my BP is up to 150/85 from 110/60 and

there are indications of Edema. My weight has increased 25lbs.

The second opinion came from another Endo who had never heard of

Inspra and said to work with my Neph.

My primary Endo is about as helpful as this guy.

Is edema something to expect when switiching from Spiro to Inspra or

are the kidneys starting to buckle.

I have a GFR of 39 which is stage 3 renal failure to go along with

the PA.

Comments?

Gordon

One more thing

I have a wrist injury that has not healed, my hand was hyper

extended (palm up) in DEC05.

After normal x-rays a MRI was done and showed bruising of the bones,

I was instructed to wear a wrist brace.

Come 17APR06 I see the hand surgeon again. The wrist has not healed.

If this was going to be the case I was told to expect a Cortisone

injection to the wrist.

The Endo that I saw today was told of this situation and he told me

that even though the edema is present the Cortisone should not

present a problem but it may make me gain some weight.

Now I already have gained 25+ pounds (edema?) would it be prudent to

hold off on the Cortisone until we get this other situation (edema)

straightened out?

Or am I getting paranoid?

I switched to Spiro 25mg daily because of the side effects from

Inspra. This is my 5 th day of Spiro and my BP is starting to climb

again. It is 155/88.

Does the Spiro take longer to work than the Inspra? I have not

changed my diet. I am still Dashing. The good thing is that the hair

on my chin is going away.

Dr Grim,

been decreasing the Inspra. I have not been taking any for the

I am finding that I need more Potassium . The symptoms will

attack me immediately literally. At 3:00 pm i can be fine and at

3:01 pm I can be in a full blown

panic attack with burning muscles and muscle twitching. Drinking

v8 helps so I know it is the potassium.

So was the Inspra keeping the potassium in my body? I cant

tolerate the breast pain and menopause symptoms that Inspra gave

me.

Thanks,

Phyllis

Usually need 1/2 dose of spiro as Inspra but everyone is different. Should have max effect of spiro for BP now.Did you stop anything else?thumbnail would be big help to keep you separate from the other 500+ here. At least for me.CE Grim MDOn May 31, 2012, at 9:01 PM, Phyllis wrote: I switched to Spiro 25mg daily because of the side effects from Inspra. Phyllis,What kind of side effects did you have from Inspra? What was your dosage of Inspra? Maybe 25 mg of Spiro is not enough. Try to increase it a little bit. Natalia From: Phyllis <phylisrn@...> hyperaldosteronism Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2012 9:01 PM Subject: Re:
