I've seen my family doctor who poked, proded and probed but didn't seem any the wiser. I have bruised where he touched me and also where the BP cuff was. The doctor has asked for an urgent appointment at the hospital. BP is high as well. I'm a bit sore from the examination and also have muscle ache from the back strain. I'm also very tired and lack energy, was very beathless just walking up stairs today. Also quite embrassed to go out due to the stares and comments. Pity as it is a local holiday here today and my friend was going to take me out for the day but i can't face it. (new way to take BP by the specialist nurse - lie the patient down and measure once from the left arm) I'm female, not menopausal yet, 47, taking no medication, last BP reading 142/98 supine from left arm. Bladder and bowels fine. I also have SJS and Coeliac Disease. Left adrenal gland removed October 2002. Ovarian tumour removed 1977. Any ideas? Helen Quote

Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 He said he thought the hospital would arrange an ultrasound scan. I'm not sure what that will show as I am definately NOT pregnant (unless there is to be another immaculate conception.......) Quote

Guest guest Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 So now I have to wait for my " urgent " appointment. I'm not holding my breath that it will be before July, or even August. Guest guest Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 I wonder what the waiting times are to see a specialist around the world for: a) accident emergency c) critical d) urgent e) routine > > If you continue to gain wt at this rate you will be an emergency. > > > > May your pressure be low! > > CE Grim, BS(Chem/Math), MS(Biochem), MD. > Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Hypertension > Former Epidemiologic Intelligence Services Officer (Lt. Guest guest Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 Another 4 pounds gained in weight since Friday. A call to my GP and then his call to the hospital has confirmed there is a waiting list. He has arranged for me to join the ante-natal group tomorrow (!) at the local clinic where I will be seen by obs. we are hoping that the obs will refer me directly somewhere else - and maybe get me futher up the list. I can't wait to see the reaction of all the young women when an old crone joins them - I think I am going to be very, very upset as I know I am not pregnant. I'm also still very bruised and sore (outside and in) from the previuos examination. I bruise very easily - the BP cuff gives me a bruise round the arm. Helen Quote

Guest guest Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I've always bruised easily but never to the same extent as I am doing now. I just got in from seeing the obs (got a lift home thank goodness) - he saw me in the village hall as there is no bus service to the hospital as I've already explained, so he comes to the hall once a month. Anyway he did an ultasound and found a grapefruit size tumour. he can't say where or how or if it is attached as the portable ultrasound machine is meant for pregnancy. I am going for blood tests at the hospital tomorrow - been told to go without fail. I rang the hospital to find out when Dracula's Daughter would be available - they don't do bloods on Friday. Told them what the obs had said and asked them to ring him and I would hold the line until they got back to me. With very bad grace I've been told I have to be there for 9am (have arranged a taxi - which I can't afford hey ho) but they can't guarantee I'll have anything done as it depends on a hospital Dr being willing to do the bloods and the finance person at the hospital to authorise payment to the Dr. Great isn't it Helen > > > In a message dated 6/7/06 3:19:07 AM, Helen@... > writes: > > > > I bruise very easily - the BP cuff > > gives me a bruise round the arm. > > > > Helen > > > > is the brusining new? > > > > May your pressure be low! > > CE Grim, BS(Chem/Math), MS(Biochem), MD. > Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Hypertension > Former Epidemiologic Intelligence Services Officer (Lt. Guest guest Posted June 10, 2006 Report Posted June 10, 2006 The " grapefruit " is in the abdominal cavity - apart from that I don't know. My blood tests all came out within lab normal except for the iron and red blood cell count which were high. No one would admit to knowing what that might mean and the internet hasn't been much use (but I may be looking in the wrong place / asking the wrong questions). Can't work out why iron should be SO high as I bleed heavily and I was dehydrated - if anything I drank more liquid than normal yesterday morning as it was a late start for me. It might explain the bruising though. I'm now waiting to see yet another specialist - this time the blood man! Helen Quote
Guest guest Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Helen, 5 1/2 years ago, I gained 17 lbs in 33 days or less. At the same time, I started feeling something in my chest so went to my primary. He did an EKG and said I was having PVCs and that they were normal, and everyone had them. At that time, I had gained 10 lbs since my previous visit 10 days earlier, but he never said a word to me. I don't think he looked at my weight. I saw a neurologist a few weeks later and I had gained 17 lbs by then. When I went back to my primary about 3 months later complaining about my feet swelling that is when he told me I gained 17 lbs. I can't imagine what you are doing for clothes, during that time, I outgrew them almost as soon as I bought them. I wore them once then they were too tight. I didn't just gain in my abdomen though, it seemed to be all over.
