My take on the HPV shot is this. First off I never let my kids or myself take anything for the first 5 years it is on the market. Look at all the drugs that have been recalled for side effects when they first are approved for use. Second this shot only covers certain forms of sexually transmittted diseases, not all of the very many that there are. I read an article by a physician and he said he would not give it to his kids. Just my 2 cents. Loree ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Guest guest
I have boys so I didn't do that but have you gotten the MPC4 which is the meningitis shot they are giving. I was told that they could get it at 11 and it lasts until they are 55. they also said people with weakened immune systems should get this especially when exposed to many people as they are in middle school. This is a shot that is not required for school so a lot of insurance does not cover it and our medicaid did not cover it also. We went to one of the Supershot sites that gave it. M. Question on HPV shots Has anyone here gotten the HPV shots for their girls? My kids pediatrician wants to have both my girls, 13 non ds and 14 ds get them. Any info or experience you could all pass my way would be wonderful. On another note you all may remember that Krsiten has surgert in April for a vaginoplasty. That went very well and she has had two normal periods since then. Boy it wasnt easy getting through that but we did and she is doing excellent. Guest guest
The HPV shot covers the strains of HPV that cause high risk for cervical cancer. There are many that are not covered as well astheLow risk strains of the same virus. I believe almost 100% of the cervical cancers (squamous type) are caused by the HPV virus. The vaccine is supposed to stop them from getting those strains. Once they have sex they are subject not only to the virus that person has but every persons virus that that person has been in contact with. The virus may not show up right away but may hang around before conditions are right and the virus causes trouble. They are not sure if it works if you have already been exposed but it may help if you have not been exposed to some of the strains in the vaccine. I would ask for all the info before I proceeded with the shot. The incidence of high grade cervical lesions in the 20 year old age group is increasing at a high rate. Yes this is due to the prevalence of the HPV virus. Guest guest
Our policy is very similar to Loree's. The shot does not cover even HALF of the HPV viruses that are out there. We reject several vaccines for all our children. This one is one of them. Guest guest
HI My 2 cents worth on the HPV vaccine. I think you need to look at if you daughters are sexually active and when they are going to be sexually active. You must remember you can only get the HPV from sex. I am not against the vaccine just that they want to push it on very young girls who not even sexually active or even thinking about it yet. When they get older and understand what it is about then I would not have a problem vaccinating my daughter but not at 9 years of age which is when the drug companies would like you to start the vaccination. So you know your daughter the best and when they should be vaccinated for it. Just my 2 cents worth. Take care.
