His teacher was totally incompetent and the school knew it. When we pulled him out, the director of sp ed at his high school told me she understood why I was pulling him out. They wouldn't replace the incompetent teacher because they were 2 sp-ed teachers short and she was a live body inside the classroom. He was just being baby-sat. I feel for you with this one. Only we really didn't have any options. went into a group home at 16. Unfortunately it was in a school district that wasn't prepared to handle his needs. For two years I have worked with that school district to get things right. They spent mega bucks on evals and consultants and staff. Unfortunately the teacher they hired didn't get it. Around here it is very difficult to fire someone once hired and in the teachers' union. The county was also screaming at me because he wasn't getting his educational needs met and I wasn't " fixing " it. So, this summer he had a different teacher. Finally they got to see the boy I kept telling them about. An alternative placement wasn't an option. Believe me the district would have jumped at it if there was one. This was a rural area and no appropriate programs within an acceptable distance. BTW, he moved into an adult group home last week and I believe this school district is better equipped.
