Guest guest Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 We replace the standard shoelaces with " springs " that we buy at Payless. You can also buy them online in all sorts of cool colors. You don't need to tie at all. just tug to tighten and they stay put. _http://www.curlylaces.com/shoelaces.html_ (http://www.curlylaces.com/shoelaces.html) - Becky Quote

Guest guest Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 I wasn't real worried about it either...just had saved the info years ago in case I needed it. Then suddenly he is bringing us our shoes or trying to tie his...when I put my shoes on he says, " me tie " and tries. I let him " pretend " to tie them and then I finish them up. But he is really interested and keeps wanting to learn. I just thought I would try it and see Kym...mom to (8ds) and 4 others Quote
Guest guest Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 My son is also interested in learning to tie his own shoes. You've got to take those opportunities when they present themselves! Our PT had what I thought was a good suggestion. He remembered when he was a Boy Scout and they learned to tie knots. The ropes they used to practie were half white and half red. That way when the knot was taking shape, you could tell the two ends apart. I have not found shoe laces made like that but I haven't really looked... something else on my 'to do' list that is getting neglected. If nothing else, I think I'll dip one end in paint...I bet the kids would help with that! > > I wasn't real worried about it either...just had saved the info years ago in > case I needed it. Guest guest Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 I think paint might make the laces stiff.... I'd use a thick Sharpie to color one half :-) , mom to (10), (8 DS, couldn't care less about her shoes with laces..... only wants " fancy " shoes with high heels, LOL) and (6) >nothing else, I think I'll dip one end in paint...I bet the kids >would help with that! > > > > > Quote

Guest guest Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 If he's showing interest, than now is the perfect time to teach him, definately! Take advantage of his eagerness to do it. I think that's neat! still can't do it and I really wish he could because he also likes to wear sweatpants, which tie also. Cool looking slip-on shoes get harder and harder to find during the high school years when fashion matters! Let me know how you make out! Guest guest Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Yes! Good idea with the Sharpie. I also heard of the colored laces method and how well it works. Guest guest Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 Thanks for the idea. My son has been interested in tying his shoes also. I think we'll try the 2 color laces for . I'll just get the Rit (sp?) dye you find with the shoe polish. Marcia 7yo Re: Re: tying shoes - springs Yes! Good idea with the Sharpie.
