Guest guest Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 My name is Kathy Everett and I live outside of Atlanta, GA in Alpharetta. I am married to and have two children. (DS) is 18 and is 15. I went back to school after was born and earned my Masters in Special Education. I am currently teaching 4th and 5th graders math self-contained and co-teaching social studies and science. I also have my own consulting business (www.blueribboneducationalconsulting.com). I am the Georgia PTA Special Services Committee Chair and try to help out aat my daughter's school, too. is officially a sophomore in school and is still participating in general ed classes (since kindergarten). She is the only student in her high school with a significant disability so we are still working out some issues. She is a very happy, outgoing young lady who is pretty independent. She is non-verbal and uses sign language and a Dynamyte MT4 to communicate. She enjoys being with friends both those with disabilities and those without. She stays active with Special Olympics for bowling,. tennis, basketball, and swimming. She also plays on a Miracle League softball team and loves it. This year she was a " manager " of the varsity volleyball team. She loved it and the girls were great with her. She will be on the girls' lacrosse team this spring. I was nervous and scared but she went to Homecoming this year and LOVED it. is my youngest and loves her sister dearly. They were actually in the same art class this semester although Jen made her own friends and didn't want to sit by her sister. found it amusing that would almsotn ignore her. presents her own challenges for me as she is a perfectionist and has prblems with anxiety at times. She is a big helper with Jen and sometiems keeps me on track, too. my husband is a real estate investor. He worked in commodities for years but now is able to live with reduced stress and enjoy his children so it was a good switch. He is a die hard Penn State fan so he is in Miami getting ready for tonight's game. I wish everyone a wonderful new year. I enjoy reading the emails so much. I am constantly learning and hope that when I add my two cents it helps someone else. I always know if I am down or have a question, this wonderful group is here for support and for this I am grateful. Kathy Everett Quote
