Guest guest
"As an offshoot of this monopoly, we still live under the absurd system whereby doctors must give prescriptions for the drugs we want to buy. The pharmacy industry and the doctors cling to this system for life support. But it is an insult to consumers and a ripoff of the sick. In a free market, you should be able to consume whatever medications you want, official or alternative, purchased in ways that accord with market demands, not government dictates." Huh? Arent doctors the ones who are supposed to tell you what drugs you need? He makes it sound like we should be able to access anything we desire. Maybe he means that there are things that could help, but a doctor would have to give a perscription for it? I'm not sure. I also love how when "marketists" who loath socialism, revert to an example of the Soviet Union. This is rediculous. That era of the USSR was absolutely destitute and corrupt. Much of what he says is right on, but i don't share his optimism that the market will work everything out. Perhaps with perscription drug cost, but not with health insurance cost. Like he says " The medical insurance cartel got its biggest boost in World War II, when wage controls caused business to compete based on benefits rather than pay." That seems to be still going on today at an alarming and disturbing rate. Overall a pretty good article, but again, wheres the BEEF? Where are the answers on how to lower the health insurance costs other than allowing the market to eventually bring it back down? ph Medlin, DCSpine Tree Chiropractic1627 NE Alberta St.Portland, OR 97211 [OregonDCs] "Speaking of Liberty" ....interesting discussion by Lew Rockwell Jr.....I haven't read any of his stuff before....about the middle of this he makes some important comments on socialization of medicine....This is presented not as a partisan political post, rather a look at free market and socialized medicine....http://www.lewrockwell.com/rockwell/socialized-medicine.htmlJ.
