Tonsillectomy, etc.

Hi Everybody:

Sorry I don't talk more, but I'm looking for some other experiences/advice

please.

My son Noah - 5 (DS, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis JRA) is having a

tonsillectomy, having his adenoids out, and new tubes put in on 12-02-04. The

doctor said he will need to be hospitalized until he can drink fluids. She said

kids with DS typically tend to shut down and not drink anything after a

tonsillectomy so it may be a few days in the hospital. This really

describes Noah since when he has a sore throat it is really hard to get him to

drink anything...

Now.... any of you who have had your kids go through this, can you give me any

tips or just general experiences about what happened with your kids - how long

they had to stay in the hospital, possible complications, etc.... I just want

information in general and right now I'm kind of clueless.

Noah's been under anesthesia before, so I'm not really too concerned about that

- more about after the surgery and how long of a stay to expect in the hospital.

I do plan on being with him almost the whole time he's in the hospital as I

learned when he had RSV at 6 weeks old how important that was. The nurses are

great, but they don't have the time to give him the love and comforting he

needs....

Ok, I think that's about it. I would just love some feedback. Maybe when I

get some time I'll post his Halloween picture. He was Buzz Lightyear this year

and adorable if I do say so myself.
