Guest guest
Sorry, Bill, but really don't consider that being a stinker. They should take it further, and I'm a web developer who *very* impacted by what Google does.. Why do I think this is good? When you do web research, how many times have you clicked on a link that *looked* good, only to find it's a page of links? I find this to be an incredible waste of time! I recommend thinking twice about changing your page names. Do you really want someone's first look at your site to be your links page? If so, you should have something more than links, something that will encourage a visitor to look around your site, including a complete menu. The problem I have with this is in how the rankings will change. Links are very important, and we're all trying to tell Google we're real, relevant websites, please see us, and now they may be removing one way we had of getting their attention. If getting on each other's links pages won't do it, then how are we going to get link recognition? Diane GreenFireHerbs.com " Never say 'can't' when there's a 'How About This' still to be tried! " Everyone With A Webste Hello, For those of you that have a website, I just got news that Google is being a stinker again. It relates to any site with a links page. If that page is named links or link or conatins either of those words in the browser heading that shows for that page, while you are viewing it, is now going to be ignored and removed from the listings. No positive word as to if it will hurt a site ranking, but no gain will be had any more in helping your rank by exchanging links. is expected to follow in the near future. There is a way around it. Re-naming the page so that it is not titled, or will not show those words. Instead of www.yoursitename.com/links.htm, something like crafters_corner.htm or .html will do the trick. Others like soapers_corner, or whatever you creative name you can give will solve the problem. Guest guest
Hi Diane Your'e right about finding a link that looks goood, only to have it turn out to be page of nothing but links. I think that is what they are trying to target, like the large link farm sites. Unfortunately, everyone with a links page will be affected. That was why changing the page name was reccomended, and yes there should be a menu for your site on that page along with a description of what you make and sell. Besides optimizing each page, maybe using text links to other pages on your site, the linking to other sites is the only way someone without the $$ to pay for a high placement, may be able to achive it. Blogs seem to be helpful also lately. If you know someone who has one set up, and they have a section for " sites I visit " or " sites I like " , try and see if they will put you in.
