Guest guest
Hi Everybody: I need a little bit of help, advice, information... etc... Noah (5, DS, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) was scheduled for a tonsillectomy, adenoids out, and new ear tubes put in on Thursday. A week and a half ago he was seen by his rheumatologist who did normal bloodwork as usual as he is on Methotrexate for his arthritis. His blood work came back last week with the liver levels elevated and they said redo the bloodwork and we will check it out again. So, we redid the bloodwork last Friday and I get a call this morning saying his liver levels are still highly elevated. Basically, this means that he has to postpone the surgery until his levels are down - that in itself is bothersome, but no big deal... Liver levels are elevated like this: ALT - 587 (normal is 30-65), AST - 306 (normal is 15-37), and LDH - 432 (normal is 100-190). What I'm most concerned with is that his rheumy doesn't think it is JRA medication related and has referred him back to his pediatrician. His pediatrician has referred him to a gastro doctor and ordered more bloodwork that the gastro doctor will want to see. He has the gastro doctor appointment on Friday as his ped wanted him seen as soon as possible. Ok, has anybody else dealt with any of this? What were your outcomes? The ped thinks it may be viral - the ones she mentioned were Hepatitis A, B, and C and also mono. None of these seem to correspond with symptoms she said (and I agree), for which he is not having any symptoms as far as I know, but it is hard to tell as he is still pretty much non-verbal. Ok, any advice, suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for everyone's help in advance.
