Salem Capitol Programs!

Dear Colleagues:

In June I sent out a letter and survey to return asking for your participation in two very exciting programs for the profession at the State Capitol.

"Chiropractor of the Day" and "Chiropractic Day at the Capitol"

The Chiropractor of the Day program is modeled after the Oregon Medical Assoc. "Doctor of the Day." We now have a treatment room actually right at the Capitol Building in Salem! It is just off the Senate Chamber on the third floor and we have gotten right at $9,000 worth of state of the art equipment donated to the room from several national and local vendors! Including a Lloyd's "Model 402 Elevation

Doctors who participate will get a special permit to park right at the Capitol building in a special parking spot. You will be announced from either the Senate or House Floor at the beginning of each morning's Legislative Session as the Chiropractor of the Day and that you can be paged at this number etc., etc. So every morning every Senator or every State Representative will hear "Chiropractor of the Day" "Chiropractic Adjustment" "Chiropractic Treatment" etc., etc.

Also if you currently treat a Legislator they will stand after you are announced and can talk about how chiropractic has specifically helped them, how you personally as their chiropractor really helped them etc., etc. ...and of course every Senator or every Representative hears this, day in and day out...this is going to be so HUGE for the profession for years to come.

Chiropractic Day at the Capitol is scheduled for Feb. 3 7:30 AM to approx. 3:00 PM. This is the day that colleagues from all over this great state travel to the Capitol building in Salem to lobby our Senators and Representatives on our Chiropractic Bills, it is a great fun time for chiropractic fellowship. Last session was the first "Chiropractic Day at the Capitol" we had in some 14 or so years! We had 66 doctors attend last session and I'd like to have at least 100 this session.

We will meet at 7:30 AM in Room 350 which is on the third floor and this room will be our base of operations all day long. We will have a light breakfast set up in the room. You will receive your morning instructions and such at that time and then at 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM we will have our big luncheon down stairs in the galleria which is highly visible and right smack in the middle of the public area of the Capital. All our legislators will be personally invited to join us for lunch, each doctor will call their Senator and State Representative to join us for lunch.....this was a huge success last session...with the profession really making a statement that WE ARE BACK IN THE LEGISLATIVE GAME BABY!!

Colleagues our profession's grass roots work across this state over the last few months has been nothing short of incredible! Doctors all over the state are stepping up to get involved with their local Senators and Representatives and it is making a difference more than you can possibly know. Everyone and I me everyone in the political circles is talking about the chiropractors cause we are everywhere, doing everything, and it is having it's positive effects!

This combined with our increasingly strong ICE PAC donation fund where doctors have committed to giving monthly or yearly is simply huge. We know have over 170 doctors giving monthly to our PAC (Political Action Committee) which is a fund that we can give money to key Legislators and candidates who are friends of the profession. It costs a huge amount of money to run a political campaign these days and the candidates are very much dependant on PAC funds from organizations like ours to fund their expensive campaigns. Grass roots work combined with PAC funds doesn't buy votes per say it builds relationships and if there is any thing I have learned to be so extremely important....or what Salem is really all about it is those relationships!

What we have done, the excitement I have seen in this profession here in Oregon, the response from the political folks....all of this has not been seen in this profession since the 50's and 60's....dear colleagues WE ARE BACK IN THE LEGISLATIVE GAME!

Icing on the cake and the third key legislative factor that we now have is a professional well respected, on both sides of the isle, Democrat and Republican....Lobbyist and we have an incredible one that be Mr. Marshall Coba. I researched Mr. Coba and several other lobbyists for more than seven month before choosing him. It didn't matter if I spoke to a very liberal Democratic Senator or a staunchly conservative Republican Representative they all had the same positive things to say about Marshall! Also key to picking Marshall was his close connection with the Governor's office as he knows the Governor well since his wife works for the Governor!
