Guest guest Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Thanks for the post . I guess it shows that our personal life experiences certainly do cause us to frame the world in different ways. F'rinstance, I lived in Texas for a while. If, in a word association test, you mentioned W. Bush and cowboy, 2 song quotes from 2 other Texas natives spring to mind. Guest guest Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Two more thoughts. As I scrolled down the cowboy pictures on your attachment, I laughed out loud at one. See the attached file and see if you folks have a similar response. Again, our experience frames the image...I think of this image in Fahrenheit 9/11, when the song from the "Greatest American Hero" is playing in the background. You '80s folks remember..."Believe it or not, I'm walking on air. I never thought I could feel so free. Flying so high on a wing and a prayer, who could it be? Believe it it or not it's just me." During the movie, I loved the point in the song lyrics when it says "...it really shoud be someone else" and the camera frame switches to Al Gore during the 2000 campaign. Another cowboy image I have when I think of Bush, is of another famous individual who had visions of grandeur, and a tendency to villify and attack too hastily, a group of different people he could not understand. See the other attached for more fun. Remember, I am not responsible for the above song that is running through your collective heads as you tend to your patients today! Peace. Guest guest Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 This ones for Texas Cowboys...yeehah An Englishman, Frenchman, Mexican, and Texan were flying across country on a small plane when the pilot comes on the loud speaker and says " We're having mechanical problems and the only way we can make it to the next airport is for 3 of you to open the door and jump, at least one of you can survive" The four open the door and look out below. The Englishman takes a deep breath and hollers "God Save The Queen" and jumps. The Frenchman gets really inspired and hollers "Viva La France" and he also jumps. This really pumps up the Texan so he hollers "Remember the Alamo" and he grabs the Mexican and throws him out of the plane. Quote

Delete if thinking outside your box makes you want to quit the elist. Message: Speaking of Texas, if you want a MAJOR reality check, go to the death row home page for Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice (a lawyer showed it to me after an ex-employee told me that she dated a medical student from Texas A & M with a who was later executed for a drug related murder [why do I get all the wacko employees??]). Take everything you think about death row inmates like Penn from “Dead Man Walking”. € deep thinkers truly remorseful, certainly misunderstood. Then read the crime descriptions of a half dozen offenders. Of fascinating note are the 9 females awaiting execution. (5 black, 4 white, no Hispanic.) The crimes are BEYOND monstrous. http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/stat/deathrow.htm As physicians, we should hunger for truth; sometimes in spite of our closely held prejudices. One of mine is that there is evil in the world which doesn’t negotiate; ever. Hence, a cowboy mentality. (Loved the part in Lonesome Dove where they strung up the cattle rustling murderers. No doubt of guilt; no extenuating circumstances; no problem: find a tree.) Still, Would that we had reached these people with parenting, love, correction, and could we say God’s grace, BEFORE they became the criminals they became. (Dr. Abrahamson, D.C.) Guest guest Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 In a message dated 10/21/2004 6:28:52 AM US Mountain Standard Time, feinberg@... writes: Let’s take a look at what we’re hearing from you guys. Now we have racist jokes about Mexicans posted on this professional forum. Reality check - I was being facetious. When I "dittoed (to use a conservative right wing term from Rush Limbaugh)" the support of Texas Cowboys, I was just kidding - as evidenced by the statement following my support of Texas cowboys which read : "Remember the Alamo, cuz we showed them Mexicans what Texas cowboys are made of." Okay let me explain this joke to you : In Texas at the Alamo a bunch of cowboys who were as Texan as Bush is, fought the Mexicans. The Mexicans slaughtered them all. You see, the "Texan" cowboys" did not "show them" at all - they got exterminated by Santa 's army on March 6. Crockett, Bowie (inventor of the Bowie knife) and other famous "Texan" cowboys unsuccessfully fought against the Mexican army. Probably the only worse US army slaughter occured at Little Big Horn where an over-confident Gen. Custer and his army was slaughtered like ducks in a pond by the Hunkpapa Sioux. I keep putting parenthesis on the word "Texan" cowboy because neither Bowie, Crockett or Bush are Texan. Bowie was born in Kentucky, Crockett in Tennessee, and Bush was born in New Haven Connecticut....yet he has a Texan accent. How is this. How does a eastern upper class family give birth to a son with a Texas accent - everyone else in his family sounds upper class Bostonian and they have one son who talks like a Texan? Anyway, by recalling the Alamo in regards to comparing Bush to Texas Cowboys I was pointing out that the cowboys at the Alamo lost and lost big. It was an effort to point out that Bush like these other "Texan" cowboys.....never mind... Man, nobody gets me. It really is funny if you think about it. A buncha over confident cowboys who take on 3rd world peasants from a foriegn country in a war and get whooped. parenthetically yours Anglen Quote

Let’s take a look at what we’re hearing from you guys. Now we have racist jokes about Mexicans posted on this professional forum. We have several of our most respected docs posting nostalgic posts about the Vietnam war. It’s as if no one remembers that the Vietnam war was begun on a lie. There never were shots fired in the gulf of Tonkin, certainly no damage or injury occurred and 55,000 young Americans, many of my high school buddies either got blown away or came back screwed up physically or mentally. Similarly, this war was begun on a lie, that Iraq had WMD’s and that there was a direct link between 9/11 and Saddam. It has been proven conclusively to be a lie. McNamara, the Secretary of Defense under President described in a recent book that that administration had no idea what the hell they were getting into, how to manage the war, or how to get out. Just like this war where these neo-con pukes are pushing an idiotic agenda that we would be welcomed with open arms and a Rumsfeld’s corporatist strategy to do it on the cheap without enough troops to control the situation or even protect American soldiers on the ground. Do any of you nut cases recall that Rumsfeld was the CEO of Searle when they called in all their chips with the FDA to push Aspartame through to approval at the expense of the health of all Americans? We have people posting on the board that Kerry is a dirty rat because he testified in front of the Senate at the age of 27 that American soldiers were committing atrocities in Viet Nam. What the hell is wrong with you guys? We did commit atrocities in Viet Nam! Can you spell Mi Ly Massacre? American officers, misguided and misled in a mangled and mismanaged war with no clear strategy committed the precisely the same categories of war atrocities that Nazi officers were convicted of in Nuremburg and which we rightly hung them for. Do you not know that? Can you actually be that ignorant? Kerry stood up in the face of enormous pressure to do otherwise and courageously told the truth out of his love for country and out of moral rectitude. Do any of you know that 30 years ago Dick Nixon put up some of the same phonies that organized the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth? It looks like you guys navigate by the same moral compass that guided the masses of German people in lockstep behind Hitler. They swallowed the big lie, just as you are now. As I have said before, I have been a registered Republican for a quarter century and espouse the less government is better view that recognizes the strength of America is in its people and their productivity and ingenuity, and does not spring from the brilliant minds of bureaucrats. Nevertheless, there is no way I can support the idiocy and incompetence of the Bush administration and the sociopathic, incompetent, and immoral people he has running the show in Washington. The breadth of his incompetence knows no limits. Whether it is suppression of stem cell research, promoting dependence on foreign oil when we should have a Manhattan project to produce energy independence, the Orwellian named “No Child Left Behind Act” that gives lip service to education reform while refusing to fund the mandates it puts on the states, the story is the same. Maybe should get of his damn knees for a change and do a little thinkin’ and little less prayin’? Guest guest Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Oh yeah, a couple more things. Here’s what Pat on had to say about his conversations with President Bush about the war in Iraq as reported by Maureen Dowd: God's blessing is on him, " the TV evangelist Pat on says, adding, " It's the blessing of heaven on the emperor. " Mr. Bush has shown all the evangelical voters who didn't like his daddy that he gets, as Mr. on puts it, " his direction from the Lord. " When a Zahn asked the televangelist Tuesday whether Mr. Bush, as a Christian, should admit his mistakes, Mr. on said he'd warned a self-satisfied Bush about Iraq: " The Lord told me it was going to be (a) a disaster, and ( messy. " Mr. on said, " He was the most self-assured man I ever met. " Paraphrasing Mark Twain, he said Mr. Bush was " like a contented Christian with four aces. He was just sitting there, like, I'm on top of the world, and I warned him about this war. ... And I was trying to say, Mr. President, you better prepare the American people for casualties. 'Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties.' " W., it seems, really believes he's the one. President Neo. (And his advisers are disciples. That's why Condi Rice so willingly puts aside her national security duties to spread the Bush gospel in swing states, and why raced to impugn Mr. on's veracity after he described his chilling encounter with W.) W.'s willful blindness comes from mistakenly assuming that his desires are God's, as if he knows where God stands on everything from democracy in Iraq to capital-gains tax cuts. Yesterday, the leadership in Iran came out endorsing W. Bush for President. Yeah, check the newspapers. The leader of Iran said that would be better than Kerry because in spite of the fact that attacked Iran’s arch enemy (which had no nuke program or WMDs), has done nothing to harm Iran (which does have nuke capabilities and probably WMDs), while Kerry rightly notes that Iran is a much bigger threat to the world than the well contained and diminished Saddam Hussein ever was. Guest guest Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 I second the dismay that has on this issue. The joke was disturbing in this forum even though i've heard it before. If anything it speaks to the mentality of these Texans you are so quick to champion. Our president the cowboy?? only for 12 more days God Willing. Kerry went to war. fought. had the strength amongst adversity to tell the truth to the american people about what was going on there even though it wasn't popular. Thats called integrity. That's something that is in dire need in the white house. Bye the way, if you don't think it's a racist joke try telling it to one of your hispanic patients. Are you stoned, so jacked up on phony patriotism and self-righteous, sanctimonious, WalMart religion that you can’t even hear your own words. I can’t believe the madness I see coming out of the mouths of folks I personally like and professionally respect. It’s like you guys got some sort of prion disease, making your brains into Swiss cheese and turning you into mindless robotic cheerleaders for a criminally incompetent moron who is pissing away the blood of brave young Americans and fortifying the very terrorists who would turn a billion Muslims into a unified wall of hatred against everything we stand for. JFK had to work hard to put down the notion that the Pope would run the White House if he were elected. Now W has turned the whole equation upside down. The separation of church and state is seen as an inconvenience. If W has a chance for another four years he’ll replace enough Supreme Court judges that separation of church and state, the first amendment, and a whole lot of other American values will be trashed. To give equal time : How do you tell the difference between a mexican beach and an American beach; The american beach has an oil slick. ========== On a bus there were a Mexican, an American, a spectacular looking blonde and a frightfully awful looking fat lady. After several minutes of the trip the bus happens to pass through a dark tunnel, and the unmistakable sound of a slap is heard. When they leave the tunnel, the American had a big red slap mark on his cheek. The blonde thought - "That American son of a bitch wanted to touch me and by mistake, he must have put his hand on the fat lady, who in turn must have slapped his face" The fat lady thought - "This dirty old American laid his hands on the blonde and she smacked him". The American thought - "That Mexican put his hand on that blonde and by mistake she slapped me". The Mexican thought - "I hope there's another tunnel soon so I can smack that stupid American again". Guest guest Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 To my dear friend Danno; Ah, it’s a lovely morning in Eastern Oregon. Now work at the office for me today. I’m sipping on a latte I whipped up just the way I like. I’ve been petting my cat to relieve tension and gazing out the window at the majestic Columbia River and watching the gray clouds reflect off of its mirror like surface. I feel relaxed and at peace, as if time has temporarily stopped its relentless march. There is stillness in the air and a quiet one only finds these days out in the countryside. Reflecting on my post of yesterday, I have to tell you that I still feel in my heart every last syllable of my comments about the Bush-Cheney cabal and the horrible effect they are wreaking on this country and the rest of the world. Sorry buddy, but I hope after the election we’ll all settle down. I was thinking about this last night. I imagine this is how civil wars start. One day everything is just peachy and then a paradigm starts to shift and someone gets the thought, “Gee, maybe we shouldn’t hold black folks as slaves? Maybe that’s wrong and immoral?”, and the next thing you know it’s brother against brother tooth and nail until right is decided by the last man standing. Must unfold something like that. Well, at least if it’s a fair election we can all say we played by the rules and bury the hatchet for another four years. Maybe then McCain will run on the Republican ticket and you and I together can beat up the next Democrat that gets sent up against him. I’d like that. Now, we’ll just pray for that fair election. Sometimes when they get beaten, they pile in the car and complain about “Cheap” play by the other team; (read cheating). I try to firmly and gently point out that they are trying to distort reality by blaming their loss on dirty tricks, bad referees, etc. While the other team may have cheated, the fact is that they (usually) lost because the other team played harder or with more skill; something they can control in the future with more practice, more passion, etc. They usually get quiet which means they agree with me or they will carry on their conversation when I am not around. Sort of like internet discussions. Of course, you can always accuse the other side of cheating before the game, preemptively: http://www.drudgereport.com/dnc66.htm (Dr. Abrahamson, D.C.) As I have said before, I have been a registered Republican for a quarter century and espouse the less government is better view that recognizes the strength of America is in its people and their productivity and ingenuity, and does not spring from the brilliant minds of bureaucrats. JFK had to work hard to put down the notion that the Pope would run the White House if he were elected. Now W has turned the whole equation upside down. The separation of church and state is seen as an inconvenience. If W has a chance for another four years he’ll replace enough Supreme Court judges that separation of church and state, the first amendment, and a whole lot of other American values will be trashed. This dime store cowboy has to go. Where the hell is Lee Harvey Oswald when you really need him? “Commander in Chief”, my ass! S. Feinberg, D.C. From: ang320@... [mailto:ang320@...] Sent: Wednesday, October 20, 2004 5:47 PM Subject: Re: OT: My President the Cowboy This ones for Texas Cowboys...yeehahAn Englishman, Frenchman, Mexican, and Texan were flying across country on a small plane when the pilot comes on the loud speaker and says " We're having mechanical problems and the only way we can make it to the next airport is for 3 of you to open the door and jump, at least one of you can survive" The four open the door and look out below. OregonDCs rules:1.
