Guest guest
Thanks, Tony, But let's say perhaps not all is metabolized, especially in an excess calorie mode. I've eaten a lot of trans fat, having been raised on margarine. If just 2 grams per day that would be 1500 #. Of course, now I only knowingly eat the transfat that comes out of the air. I don't see them stopping making it, since it's so stable. Regards. [ ] Re: High trans fat diet may create "spare tire" > Interesting study. So, once again, the question is: what causes > greater weight gain on equal caloric intake?> > So for these monkeys did the trans fat lower body temperature? Or > reduce physical activity? Or act as an anti-diuretic? Or make the > body metabolically more efficient? ........... Or is energy being > magically created/destroyed?> Rodney,I think that the answer is none of the above. Apparently, the trans fats cannot be metabolized like normal fat and they justaccumulate. The experiment took place over several years. A bodyweight increase of a few grams per day is very hard to measure on aday-by-day basis due to fluctuations in hydration, temporaryintestinal retention, etc. However, if you gain only 2.7 grams ofweight per day, at the end of a year you will have gained 1 kilogram(2.2 lb).2.7 grams of fat is the equivalent of 24 calories. That is like twopeanuts. You can burn 24 calories by exercising moderately for5 minutes.Tony
