Guest guest
Hi all. Sorry, this is not specifically mito related, but I thought I would throw it to the best " experts " I know! Gracie was recently seen in the local ER for what turned out to be a UTI with anuria. She seems to be responding well to the antibiotic. Gracie is 3 yo, this is the first UTI she's had. Upon follow-up with our GP, he has referred her to a pediatric urologist as he says that she needs to be evaluated for kidney reflux. When I questioned why he would feel that way, all he would say to me is that it is " standard procedure " to refer to a urologist after only one UTI. Also, I found it a bit odd that he didn't want her to see a local urologist, but rather wants to send her to the children's hospital that Matty went to (although it is an hour or more away from where we live). This coming from the same GP who for months refused to say that Gracie had any problems at all that needed specialist follow-up (regarding the fatigue, low muscle tone, speech and developmental delays, etc.) Also, I'm a bit confused as it was my understanding that it is not uncommon for little girls (particularly little girls still in diapers) to get UTI's. And considering that this is the first time we have dealt with UTI (it is not an ongoing problem), it seems weird to me that he would make a costly referral to a specialty hospital where they have already arranged to do at least x-rays and an ultrasound. So, my question to you all is, do you know anything about kidney reflux? Is it, in fact, standard procedure to make this kind of referral after the first incidence of infection? My feeling is that there is something that our GP is not telling me, something that maybe showed up on testing at our local ER? There, they did blood work (which all looked fine to me) and x-rays, as well as a urinalysis. Thanks for any information or insight you might have for me!! H. momma to ^^ (PS & KSS) (And Gracie and Adri too!!)
Guest guest
Hi , Well as someone that's been treated for UTI's over the past year I can honestly say that what your Dr has proposed to you sounds to the extreme. I was on medication called Hiprex, and had MSU's every 6 weeks to check for reoccurrence of infections, but never had to go through any of the stuff Gracie is scheduled for. I would ask your Dr why. It doesn't ring true to me either. Hows things in general hon? Love Aisha
Guest guest
Aisha, Things are going okay. Same old same old. LOL Gracie's appointment with the Developmental Peds people is next week (finally!!) so I'm hoping that we learn more then. I'll just be glad to know, one way or the other, what is going on with her. It's so frustrating to deal with problem after problem and not know why it is happening, or how to help. Since I posted last week about her newest speech problems (the stuttering), it has gotten worse...she's still stuttering but is now drawing out the sounds too..like instead of it just being I-I-I-I-I want a cookie....now it's Eeeeye-eeeye-eeeye-eeeye want a cooooookie...um, I think they call that prolongation. So that's something that we'll have to keep an eye on, too, as interruptions in the normal flow of speech such as these can be indicative of a neuro problem. Otherwise, things are pretty much the same. LOL How are you doing? *hugs* Aisha Elderwyn wrote: Hi , Well as someone that's been treated for UTI's over the past year I can honestly say that what your Dr has proposed to you sounds to the extreme.
