OK, we finally got the ESY info, and I'm not very happy. Of course,

Resource teacher does not communicate with me, so this has been the only

info to date. Basically, is fully included in kindergarten,

1:1 aide, pull outs for Speech and APE, and OT in the classroom. She is

doing very well in this environment, and in fact, her report card

(regular) for the second period had a lot of " at grade level " , a few

" above grade level:, along with the " below grade level " marks. For

summer school, she can attend Special Day or nothing. Does anyone else

see a problem here?

Now, here is the tricky part. Because of the CA budget problems, our

district will not be offering summer school for typical (but needing

more help) children. Our particular school, because it receives Title I

money, is considering offering summer school, paid for with that

money. However, our school is being torn down and rebuilt (it's 75

years old, and would cost more to retrofit than the rebuild). So, there

is no place to offer summer school for our kids, even if our school came

up with the money. Even if they got a place (perhaps another elementary

school???), many of the children that would be " invited " to attend

summer school would not have transportation to a different school site,

and it's unlikely that our school would be able to offer

transportation. So, really, there is very little chance that our school

will have summer school, and there isn't any other (that anyone knows

of) within the district.

The years we attended Special Day ESY (preschool) with her regular

Speciaal Day teacher, it was productive time. The other years, I ended

up pulling her out because it was a waste of time...... babysitting and

" compliance " for their part, not warming up to new staff fast enough on

's part. So, what can I do? At the very least, I would like

her to get Speech and OT for the summer..... can I (reasonably) try and

make them pay for private? We could try a different district, but the

transportation time would be unreasonable.... she'd spend more time on a

bus/car than in school. If I (somehow) found a place for her to attend

summer school classes, must they pay for her aide (since it's in the IEP?).

I went to the principal as soon as I got the info to discuss options.

She is going to contact the program specialist to discuss additional

options, but I'm expecting the worst (meaning no other options). Any

creative ideas?
