Ghrelin Vaccine (????)

Hi folks:

On the TV news last night a 'scientist' was interviewed who said they

now had a 'ghrelin vaccine' the effect of which, in animal tests, was

that the immune system dramatically reduces circulating ghrelin

levels and thereby " people could eat as much as they want and not put

on weight " .

Of course they did not explain what happens to the excess calories

that are ingested. They did claim that the reduced ghrelin levels

prevented fat deposition. So ........... does this, assuming it is

true, result in a much higher body temperature? Or accumulation of

sugar/starch deposits somewhere in the body, instead of fat? Or does

it cause a dramatic reduction in intestinal absorption? Or do the

animals jog marathons in their sleep and have no recollection of it

when they wake up? Where do the extra ingested calories, which are

not deposited as fat, disappear to? This was not disclosed.

In addition, what were the chemical biomarkers of the voracious-but-

slim animals? Did they have lipids, insulin, CRP, WBC values typical

of animals that eat lots of calories without the vaccine benefit? Or

did they have the biomarker values of animals on 30% CR? Or perhaps

entirely different values?

Clearly I am skeptical about this. But let's see how this news

develops. I mention it just to bring it to people's attention.

Rodney.
