Guest guest
Hi, My son, , age 9 wrote a feature article about DS. He worked so hard on it and he did lots of research. While he was doing the research parts he became very upset while reading about some things that he didnt know about DS. He included photos and an interview from some of the families from this group (we just asked a few people we know well). I want to thank those of you that helped out. Today I took a day off from work to see his writing celebration where everyone got to read each others articles. The teachers were blown away with jesse's (BTW he's in an inclusion class as a non spec needs kid). The AP and the supervisor of Special Ed whom all know amanda, also read the article with tears in their eyes. Anyway, I am soooooo proud of him- we have the best sibs, dont we? ~ Mom to 13 DS and Diabetes Type 1 and 9 NY PS- if anyone wants to read the article, let me know, it just wont be as awesome without the pics and I can email it to you. Guest guest
Patty, Well, jesse had so many angles to take- he could have talked about WV, the buddy walks, the research parts, what its like to live with someone with DS- I'm sure you know what he chose after reading the article. I'm sure this is his first in a series of many- hey, anyone know where I can send it to be actually published? Anyone have any thoughts about that? seemed really good about it- she was proud of him and not 'embarrassed' by what he wrote. He also didnt want it to be " the Story " and wanted her only to be mentioned. There's also only 2 photos of her and the rest are some of our other kids. Guest guest
you might try sending it to a national ds group that puts out a newsletter. They sometimes do pieces like this. :-) Also I think Exceptional Parent sometimes did these type of things to....if it's still being published it might be worth a try if you really want to try to get it published. :-) Good Luck. I've always enjoyed reading our kids' sibs articles on DS. :-) Joy
